Add a colorful Halloween twist to classic crispy treats. Frankensteins, candy corn & pumpkins, oh my!
Ingredients
Green Batch
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 20+ drops green food coloring
- 6 cups crisp rice cereal
Orange Batch
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 15 drops red food coloring + 30 drops yellow food coloring
- 6 cups crisp rice cereal
Décor
- 1 (10 oz) package dark chocolate melting disks (dipping chocolate)
- 1 (10 oz) package white chocolate melting disks (dipping chocolate)
- Pretzel sticks
- Candy eyeballs
- Small tube of green frosting or green-tinted white chocolate melting disks
Directions
For Each Batch
- In a large saucepan melt butter. Add marshmallows and cook, stirring often, until marshmallows have melted. Add green or orange (red + yellow) food coloring. Note: Make sure marshmallow mixture is very brightly colored – once crisp rice is added, it will lessen the color.
- Add crisp rice to marshmallow mixture and mix to coat. Repeat with second batch of remaining color.
For Frankenstein
- Press green mixture into a greased 13 x 9-inch pan. Refrigerate to set.
- Once set, cut into rectangles. Dip the top 1/3 of each rectangle in melted dark chocolate melting discs to make “hair”. Dip eyes in chocolate and add to face. Repeat with remaining rectangles.
- Pour a small amount of melted dark chocolate into a zip top bag, cut a tiny hole in one corner and use as a piping bag to create mouth. Stick pretzel stick “bolts” into each side of the monsters’ necks.
Makes about 10-12 monsters.
For Candy Corn
- Press 2/3 of the orange mixture into a greased 9-inch round pan. Refrigerate to set.
- Cut into triangles (like you would a pie). Dip the bottom of each triangle into dark chocolate melting discs. Refrigerate to set.
- Dip the tops of each triangle into white melting discs and add candy eyes.
Makes about 8-12 candy corn critters.
For Pumpkins
- Shape remaining orange mixture into small round pumpkins, about 1/2 cup mixture per pumpkin.
- Press a pretzel stick into the center of each for the pumpkin “stem.”
- Tint a small amount of remaining white chocolate melting discs green with food coloring and place in a zip top bag. Cut a tiny hole in a corner of the bag and squeeze out frosting to create leaves. Alternatively, use a small tube of green frosting.
- Dip candy eyes in white dipping chocolate and add to pumpkings
Makes about 8-12 pumpkin critters
