The next time you’re in the mood for something sweet around the campfire, try one of these delicious treats from California camper Donna Mitchell. It’s a delicious take on a traditional pineapple upside down cake!
Ingredients
- 6 plain cake donuts, sliced in half sideways, like a bagel
- 6 slices of pineapple, in their own juice
- Brown sugar
- 6 aluminum foil pieces
Instructions
Place one half donut on a piece of foil. Top with pineapple slice. Press 2-3 Tbsp. Brown sugar on top of the pineapple. Place other half of donut on top. Wrap securely in foil.
Place on grate over hot coals, or on preheated grill. Cook about 10 minutes, turn over, and cook another 10 minutes. Brown sugar should be melted – if not, rewrap and cook a few minutes more.
Unwrap and eat – warning they might be hot.
“I have used powdered [donuts] if plain aren’t available,” Donna said. She also suggested using Stevia to reduce the total amount of calories
