KCN Campgrounds Acquires St. Joseph / Lake Michigan KOA

August 26, 2026 — KCN Campgrounds is bringing its commitment to memorable outdoor hospitality to southwest Michigan with the acquisition of the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday, located minutes from the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan.

The acquisition marks KCN’s first Michigan property, expanding its portfolio of camping destinations across the United States. With campgrounds in destinations including Wisconsin Dells, Hot Springs National Park, Hershey, and Gettysburg, KCN connects travelers with places to explore, relax, and make lasting memories.

A New Chapter with a Familiar Team

For returning campers, the next chapter begins with a familiar face. Richard Burlingham, who has served as the campground’s Operations Manager for the past five years, will continue leading the team as General Manager. His experience with the property, guests, and local community provides continuity as the campground joins the KCN portfolio.

“We are honored to become only the third owners of the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA since it opened in 1974,” said Kevin Thueson, Founder and Managing Partner of KCN Campgrounds. “We’re excited to work with Richard and the team as we establish a presence in southwest Michigan and explore future investments that strengthen both this campground and our growing portfolio while creating memorable camping experiences for generations of families.”

KCN’s approach combines local leadership with the support and experience of a national campground operator. Working alongside Richard and the team, KCN will build on the property’s established reputation for welcoming service while exploring opportunities to enhance the camping experience.

A Lake Michigan Destination with Lasting Appeal

Part of the Kampgrounds of America network, the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday offers a welcoming home base for discovering Michigan’s Great Southwest. Its proximity to Lake Michigan’s beaches makes it a natural addition to KCN’s growing portfolio of destinations for families, couples, and outdoor travelers.

The campground’s history stretches back to 1974. Most recently, owners Mark and Karla Lemoine spent ten years revitalizing the property, strengthening its connection to the community, and creating experiences that brought guests back year after year.

KCN will carry that work forward with a focus on the people and hospitality that make the campground special. The ownership transition pairs an experienced on-site team with broader operational support, creating a foundation for the property’s next chapter.

Looking Ahead

For KCN Campgrounds, the acquisition represents an opportunity to welcome more campers to southwest Michigan and establish lasting relationships within the local community.

With Richard continuing as General Manager and the campground’s experienced team in place, KCN looks forward to welcoming returning guests and introducing new visitors to camping near Lake Michigan.
