Crystal River KOA: Dog Friendly Trails Spotlight

Theres nothing like camping with your dogs. Crystal River KOA is a pet friendly campground open year-round. We offer well-kept grass at all of our lots, deluxe K9 patio sites that a have private fenced in area for your dogs, and Kamp K9 by the clubhouse for a safe spot to let your dog off leash and stretch their legs during your stay. 

Maybe you and your dog would prefer a nature walk during your stay with us for an adventure filled day. Right off West to Gulf Lake Highway our campground is at a great location and is close to many dog-friendly trailheads right here in Crystal River.  So, leash up your dog, grab some water and bug spray and hit up some of these gorgeous local trails with your four-legged best friend. 

1. Crystal Cove Trailhead

This is an easy well marked mile long walk, making it both pet and family friendly. With free parking, this trailhead also offers a kayak launch, fishing opportunities, and great for birdwatching. There are picnic tables available to take a break or enjoy a nice lunch. Crystal Cove Trailhead is about twelve minutes away from camp. 

2. Eco-Walk Trailhead, Crystal River Preserve State Park

Close to the Crystal Cover Trailhead, this one is a little longer at just over two miles. This marked tail loops in an easy flat hike through swamps, grasslands and tree tunnels. Lots of trees along the trail offering shade from the hot Florida sun. There are benches available throughout the park as well. This trailhead is about eleven minutes away from camp.

3. Seven-Mile Loop Trailhead Crystal River State Park

This trail offers a nice wide path that loops through tidal creeks, marshy flats and woodlands. Don't feel like walking the full seven miles? No problem! trail markers will show you options to cut the walk shorter if so desired. This trail is also a great option for bike riders as its paths are easy to maneuver.  This trailhead is about ten minutes away from camp. 

4. Withlacoochee Bay Trail

If you drive just a little further up Highway 19 you get a gorgeous, paved trail along the river. It is a five-mile-long walk with scenic rest points and picnic tables. This trail also offers boat and kayak launch points and maintained restrooms. With it being paved, it is also a great option for bike riding and skating. Please note there is a chance that you may come across horse-backed riders as Withlacoochee Bay trail has equestrian trail options as well. This trailhead is sixteen minutes away from camp.


5. Trailheads along Forst Island Trail

Just off Highway 19, this road not only takes you to the only gulf access point in town it also has multiple trailheads along its route to choose from. There are slight variations in length, and all allow you to bring your leashed pet with you for your walk in nature.
