CAMP THE 250TH!

Why East Stroudsburg & the Pocono Mountains Are America's Perfect 4th of July Getaway.

Celebrate under the open sky—where campfires, freedom, and time together capture the spirit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Let's be honest: most 4th of July plans involve traffic jams, crowded beaches, and watching fireworks from a parking lot. But what if this year — this very special, once-in-250-years — you did something different?

What if you pitched a tent, parked your RV, or kicked back in a cozy cabin in the Pocono Mountains, where the Delaware River is minutes away and the Appalachian Trail is your morning commute?

East Stroudsburg and the surrounding Pocono Mountains region is one of Pennsylvania's most beloved camping destinations, and for the 250th Anniversary of American Independence, also known as the Semiquincentennial, there has never been a better year to be right here.

5 — Why Camping Is the Only Way to Do This Weekend Right

Think about it this way: every hotel in the greater New York City metro area is going to be packed, overpriced, and exactly the same as every other long weekend. But a campsite in the Pocono Mountains? That's yours. Your fire. Your sky. Your sunrise over the mountains. Nobody can take that from you.

Then, come evening, you load the family into the car and head a short drive away to one of the area's spectacular fireworks shows before returning to your own campfire to make everlasting memories. That's a 4th of July worth remembering.

6 — Quick Tips for Your Pocono 4th of July Camping Trip

  • Book early, like right now. 2026 is the 250th anniversary — every campground within 100 miles of a fireworks show will be full. This is not a "book in June" situation.

  • Plan for Thursday arrival. Beat the Friday afternoon crush by heading up Thursday evening. You'll get settled, set up your site, and be totally relaxed before the holiday weekend officially starts.

  • Bring layers for night. July nights in the Pocono Mountains can be surprisingly cool — especially at elevation. A light jacket goes a long way after the sun drops.

  • Grab your kayak reservation early. River outfitters along the Delaware fill up fast on holiday weekends. Book that rental at the same time as your campsite.

  • Check the National Park fee days. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area charges a $10 per vehicle fee from April through October at river access points.

  • Fire pit fireworks are off-limits. Most campgrounds strictly prohibit personal fireworks on-site. Attend one of the fantastic local public displays instead — you won't be disappointed.

  • Fishing License is required in PA. A Pennsylvania fishing license is required for anyone aged 16 and older to fish in PA, available for purchase online at HuntFish.PA.gov or any Walmart or tackle store.
