Summer is wonderful. We love summer. But these quieter months? They're special in their own way.

April, May & September Weather in Seward: Why It's Ideal for Camping

 April & May brings you:

  • Nearly 16 hours of daylight (you can hike at 9 pm and it's still light out)
  • Spring energy—the whole landscape is waking up, and you get to witness it
  • Comfortable temperatures

September gives you:

  • 12+ hours of daylight (light when you need it, darkness when you want it)
  • Golden-hour lighting that makes everything beautiful
  • Crisp air and way fewer bugs
  • That perfect "early fall" feeling

Both hit differently than summer with clearer skies, easier breathing, a different rhythm altogether.

 Fewer Crowds, More Connection

April, May, and September bring a different energy to Seward.

 You'll find:

  • Ease of access and proximity to Kenai Fjords National Park (we're the closest campground/RV Park!)
  • Tour boats operating with space to move around
  • Trails where you can hear yourself think
  • Campfire conversations with neighbors instead of just neighbors

It's the difference between experiencing Alaska and experiencing a lot of people experiencing Alaska.

Best Activities in Seward by Season: Spring Fishing, Fall Golden Light & Glacier Viewing

From Spring Awakening to Golden Light. April and May spring fishing is ramping up as silver and king salmon are on the move, making it prime season for Alaska fly-fishing and charter fishing with smaller guided groups. Exit Glacier reveals itself, fresh from winter, and the ice is brilliant blue and the contrast is stunning. Resurrection Pass Trail is passable and rewarding, with wildflowers emerging and the landscape truly coming alive. You’ll find wildlife waking up and on the move, eagles, bears, moose and Dall sheep.

The fall and September brings gorgeous golden light with silver salmon runs hitting hard. With 12+ hours of daylight, the views are absolutely unreal as glaciers glow, mountains photograph beautifully, and the entire area has a golden quality. Hiking is ideal and the ecosystem begins to slow.

Our Bald Eagles Are More Interesting

That family of bald eagles living in our tall tree? Spring is all nest-building energy and territorial displays. September is fledglings learning to fish. It's genuine wildlife drama happening right from your campfire.

As long-time Seward KOA residents, we see these seasonal shifts firsthand. Spring migration, summer peaks, and fall transitions shape how guests experience the area.

Your Heated Shower Feels Like a Treat

Cool evenings make our bathhouse with heated shower floors feel genuinely luxurious. Our general store is fully stocked, the lodge is cozy and warm, WiFi works year-round, and there's breathing room everywhere. Sit on our deck, enjoy a tasty beverage, and watch the world. Simple comforts hit differently when the season is quieter.

 Better Rates, Better Availability

April, May and September offer friendlier rates than peak summer and easier access to sites and accommodations. You get more for your budget and a more relaxed experience overall.

Here's the Real Reason to Book Now

Seward KOA is open mid-April through September 30 for RV camping, cabin stays, and tent camping. April and May are highlights because people know spring is special. September books with folks chasing that golden-light season and the fishing runs.

If you want to experience Seward the way locals do, with space to breathe and time to actually be preset, these months deliver that.

And if summer is your timing, that's great too. Seward is worth visiting any time the park is open, and we look forward to welcoming you.
