Kenai Fjords National Park Near Seward, Alaska: Big Views, Glaciers, and Wildlife

If big Alaska scenery is on your list, Kenai Fjords National Park near Seward, Alaska, is well worth the trip. Just outside town, you’ll find towering glaciers, rugged coastline, deep fjords, and plenty of wildlife — all close enough for an easy day of adventure from Seward KOA Holiday.

A Park Made for Exploring

Shaped by ice and water, Kenai Fjords covers more than 600,000 acres of spectacular wilderness. You can explore it by land, water, or air, depending on the season and your sense of adventure.

One of the easiest places to start is Exit Glacier. To get there, just follow Herman Leirer Road, which also happens to be the exact road where you’ll find Seward KOA. Once you arrive, you’ll find scenic hiking trails and incredible views of the glacier and surrounding mountains. It’s the kind of place that reminds you just how big Alaska really is.

Want to see the park from a whole new angle? Head out on the water. Boat tours and kayaking trips from Resurrection Bay offer a closer look at Kenai Fjords’ dramatic coastline, icy blue glaciers, and local wildlife. Need help planning your outing? Call or stop by Seward KOA’s Concierge Desk for help with booking and information on discounted rates.

Pro Tip: Free Daytime RV Parking + No Entrance Fee

Here’s a nice little bonus: Kenai Fjords National Park offers free daytime RV Parking at the Exit Glacier Trailhead parking lot and has no park entrance fee, year-round. Some tours, permits, and transportation options may still have their own associated costs, so it’s always smart to check ahead before you go.

Kenai Fjords Is Open Year-Round

The park is open year-round, but access and services change with the seasons. In winter, the road to Exit Glacier is not plowed and closes to vehicles when snow and ice take over. The good news? Winter adventure is still very much on the table, with opportunities for cross-country skiing, fat-tire biking, and snowmobiling.

Before heading out, check current park conditions and road status so you’re ready for whatever the season has in store.
