When the lingering summer heat finally breaks and the cool autumn breezes roll across Lake Pontchartrain, the Louisiana Northshore comes alive. While tourists typically flock to crowded New Orleans or pack into the bustling Mississippi Gulf Coast, savvy travelers know a secret -
Whether you’re rolling in with an RV, pitching a tent, or just looking for a weekend getaway, here is why Slidell should be at the top of your fall travel list:
October in Slidell means you are perfectly positioned for the South's best events. You are just a quick, 30-minute drive from the world-famous —close enough to enjoy the classic cars all day, but far enough away to escape the concrete lots and loud traffic at night. Furthermore, October marks the historic return of Louisiana’s recreational alligator hunting season (the first in over 50 years!), making Slidell a prime hub for sportsmen needing a secure, spacious basecamp for their gear and boats.
You don’t have to fight downtown New Orleans traffic to experience incredible Louisiana culture. In October, Slidell’s historic Olde Towne and Heritage Park fill up with local fall festivals, free outdoor music, antique fairs, and authentic Cajun and Creole food events. It is all the flavor of the big city with the charm of a welcoming, small-town community.
October hits the sweet spot: it is still warm enough during the day to enjoy a pool pass or host a family gathering at an outdoor pavilion, but cool enough at night to relax around a crackling campfire under the Spanish moss. Plus, Slidell goes all out for Halloween! From epic campsite decorating contests and trick-or-treating at the campground to the official Bayou Breeze Disc Golf Tournament on October 31st, the local community spirit is unmatched.
Make your home away from home this October! With secure parking for classic cars, spacious full-hookup RV sites, and the best-stocked camp store in the area, we have everything you need for a stress-free fall retreat.
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
