Yellowstone National Park is open and operating normally for the 2025 season, but its entrances have specific opening dates. The North Entrance in Gardiner, MT, is the only entrance that is open all year.
The road openings in Yellowstone National Park differ due to the region's harsh winters — heavy snowfall and ice can make some areas of the park inaccessible until late spring. With that in mind you may be thinking to yourself, "when is Yellowstone National Park open?" Follow this entrance guide to learn more and plan your trip to this beautiful park.
The West Entrance in West Yellowstone, Montana, opens on April 18, 2025. This entrance is close to many of the park's premier destinations, including:
The park's East Entrance in Cody, Wyoming, opens on May 2, 2025. If you want to fish in Yellowstone National Park, this entrance is close to Yellowstone Lake and the Fishing Bridge area. Trails in the area offer views of the lake and geyser formations. Near the intersection of East Entrance Road and Grand Loop Road is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Hayden Valley.
Yellowstone National Park's South Entrance in Jackson, Wyoming, opens on May 9, 2025. This entrance guides visitors to the southern region of the park, close to the Continental Divide, West Thumb and Lewis Falls. It also connects to Grand Teton National Park, so this entrance is best if you want to explore both parks during your stay.
The opening date for the park's Northeast Entrance, or Beartooth Highway, has not been announced yet. Based on previous years, this entrance may open between late May and early June — the exact date depends on snow conditions. The Beartooth Highway Entrance is the closest entrance to Lamar Valley, the restaurants and shops in Cooke City, Montana, and the old mining town of Red Lodge.
