Nestled in Wyoming’s rugged northwest corner, Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park are a dream destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone craving fresh mountain air and jaw-dropping views. Whether you're here for wildlife, hiking, photography, or just soaking in the mountain-town vibe, this 5-day itinerary will help you experience the best of the region. Alpine/Bridger-Teton KOA is the perfect basecamp to enjoy Jackson and Grand Teton National Park. This brand new KOA is only 45 minutes south of Jackson and offers tranquility and relaxation.
Day 1: Welcome to Jackson Hole
Morning:
Arrive in Jackson, a charming Western town framed by dramatic peaks. Stroll through Town Square, snap a photo under the iconic antler arches, and explore local shops and art galleries.
Afternoon:
Visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art, just a few minutes outside of town. The building itself is perched above the National Elk Refuge and offers stunning views and an impressive collection of wildlife-inspired art.
Evening:
Book a sunset wildlife safari through the nearby Elk Refuge or into the edge of Grand Teton National Park. It’s your best shot at spotting elk, moose, bison, and maybe even a bear.
Where to eat: Try Snake River Grill or Local for an upscale Western dining experience.
Day 2: Grand Teton Scenic Loop + Jenny Lake
Morning:
Enter Grand Teton National Park via Moose Junction and begin the 42-mile scenic loop drive. Stop at key pullouts like:
Mormon Row (sunrise!)
Schwabacher Landing
Snake River Overlook
Late Morning – Afternoon:
Head to Jenny Lake, one of the park’s crown jewels. Take the boat shuttle across the lake and hike to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. For more of a challenge, extend your hike into Cascade Canyon.
Evening:
Return to Jackson or stay inside the park (e.g., at Jenny Lake Lodge or Jackson Lake Lodge). Sunset over the Tetons is a must!
Pro Tip: Bring binoculars or a zoom lens for wildlife and landscape photography.
Day 3: Hiking + Wildlife Day in Grand Teton
Morning:
Hike one of the moderate trails:
Taggart Lake Loop (3.8 miles, scenic and popular)
Phelps Lake via Death Canyon Trailhead (4–7 miles depending on route)
These hikes offer classic Teton views without intense elevation gain.
Afternoon:
Drive north toward Oxbow Bend, Willow Flats, or Jackson Lake for more wildlife viewing. Keep your eyes out for bears, moose, bald eagles, and pelicans.
Evening:
Head back to Jackson. Stop for drinks at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar for an authentic Western saloon experience.
Day 4: Adventure Day – Choose Your Thrill
Option 1: Whitewater Rafting on the Snake River
Book a half-day whitewater rafting trip (or a scenic float if you prefer calm water) with one of the local outfitters.
Option 2: Horseback Riding
Experience the Old West with a guided horseback ride into the Gros Ventre Range or Teton foothills.
Option 3: Aerial Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
Ride the tram to Rendezvous Mountain for epic views and lunch at Corbet’s Cabin (don’t miss the waffles!).
Evening:
Soak those tired muscles in the Granite Hot Springs (about an hour's drive) or relax with a spa treatment back in town.
Day 5: Sunrise + Depart or Bonus Activities
Morning:
If you're up for it, catch a sunrise at Schwabacher Landing or Mormon Row — some of the most iconic photo ops in the park.
Late Morning:
Visit the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve for a peaceful nature walk and reflection on your time in the Tetons.
Before You Leave:
Grab a final coffee and stock up on souvenirs or local art.
Final Tips
Book lodging early, especially in summer.
Start hikes early to avoid crowds and heat.
