There is so much to see and do in the Richfield Springs / Cooperstown area all summer and fall. From museums to markets, breweries, wineries, opera and of course...baseball! Otsego and Canadarago lakes are within a short driving distance and offer fishing, boating, swimming, and lakeside dining. Perfect for all ages.
The valley here is full of farms and farm stands. You can purchase anything from fresh meats and eggs, to local honeys and maple syrups. Don't forget the fresh fruits and vegetables. There is even a u-pick strawberry patch. Stop by the office and pick up a list of local farm stands.
There are many fishing lakes near the campground. The biggest are Otsego Lake and Canadarago Lake. There are several small lakes around as well. Check https://dec.ny.gov/regulatory/permits-licenses/sporting-and-use/sporting/fishing-license for fees and regulations.
Play a round or two of golf at one of several golf courses in and near Cooperstown. Both Leatherstocking and Otsego golf courses are open to the public. Meadowlinks is a course is Richland Springs. Go to https://www.otesaga.com/golf/course-info-rates or https://www.otsegogolfclub.com/ or https://www.meadowlinks.com/# to find your tee times.
There are many amazing hidden hikes in the area. A few to check out and enjoy are: The Owen D Young Trail in Van Hornesville, Sleeping Lion in Glimmerglass State Park, and Springfield Nature Trail in Springfield Center. Hop on google maps to find more hiking trails around.
The hills and valleys surrounding the KOA are an amazing sight. Hwy 20 right outside the KOA is classified as a Scenic Drive itself. There are many back roads around to view the beauty of the surrounding hills. In Spring, the wildflowers splatter color across the landscape. In Fall, the many types of trees change to vibrant shades of oranges, golds and reds. Leaf peepers delight! There is also many varieties of wildlife you may spot. Deer hang out in the fields and meadows, a turkey may duck into the trees as you pass, groundhogs chatter as they scurry into their burrows. Enjoy the scenic drives, but make sure your maps are loaded up as the signal on your cell phones may be lost as you dip into valleys.
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
