From I-95 (North or South) Take Exit 17 to US-301 S. Proceed on US-301 S for 1.7 miles until arrival at 2940 Sussex Drive on the right.

Morning – Arrival & Camp Setup
Arrive, get settled, and take your time setting up your RV or campsite. Once you’re ready, walk the campground and get familiar with the amenities.
Late Morning – Meherrin River Park
Head just a few minutes into town to explore Meherrin River Park. The paved walking paths and river views are perfect for stretching your legs after a drive. Bring coffee and enjoy the quiet water views.
Afternoon – Historic Downtown Emporia
Spend the afternoon browsing shops and grabbing lunch in downtown Emporia. The historic district is compact and easy to explore in a couple of hours.
Evening – Campfire Night
Return to the campground for a relaxed evening. Spring temperatures make it ideal for grilling dinner and enjoying a campfire under the stars.
Morning – Pick Up Your Virginia 250 Passport
Stop at a nearby Virginia Welcome Center along I-95 or head toward a participating historic site to pick up your free Virginia 250 Passport. This program celebrates America’s 250th anniversary and allows you to collect stamps at historic destinations across the state.
Day Trip Option 1 – Colonial Williamsburg (1.5–2 hours)
Visit Colonial Williamsburg for a walk through restored 18th-century streets, live interpreters, and interactive exhibits. It’s an easy and meaningful spring day trip.
Day Trip Option 2 – Petersburg National Battlefield (1 hour)
Explore Petersburg National Battlefield. The driving tour makes it convenient to see multiple sites without extensive walking.
Evening – Relax Back at Camp
After a full day of history, enjoy a quiet dinner at your site or grab takeout in Emporia and unwind.
Morning – Lake Gaston (30 minutes)
Drive south to Lake Gaston. Spring is ideal for fishing, kayaking, or a peaceful lakeside picnic before summer crowds arrive.
Afternoon – Scenic Drive or Local Stops
Take a scenic drive through the countryside surrounding Emporia. Farmland, open skies, and blooming trees make spring especially beautiful. Stop at roadside markets if they’re open for the season.
Alternative Option – Richmond (1.5 hours north)
If you prefer a city outing, visit the Virginia Museum of History & Culture or walk around Richmond’s historic neighborhoods.
Evening – One Last Campground Sunset
Wrap up your trip with a slow evening at camp. Spring evenings are cool but comfortable, perfect for one more fire and a little trip planning for next time.
