Embracing Thankfulness

A Reflection on Our Campground Journey:

As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings this campground has brought into our lives. When Dewayne and I decided to leave our familiar careers in 2020, we knew we were stepping into something unknown but filled with potential. Our dream was to create a place where people could reconnect with nature, relax, and build memories with their loved ones. But we never expected just how much this journey would shape us, deepening our gratitude for nature and bringing us together with such a vibrant community.

Owning a campground has been both thrilling and humbling. Each day, we wake up surrounded by Mississippi’s natural beauty—the bright sun filtering through the trees, the gentle sounds of our bird sanctuary, and the ever-changing landscape. This place has given us a newfound appreciation for the simple yet profound joys of life. Living here has taught us patience and resilience, reminding us to appreciate each day and live with intention. In this slower pace, we’ve come to cherish the gentle rhythms of the land and the seasons.

One of the greatest gifts our campground has given us is the community we’ve built here. Running this place has allowed us to meet people from all walks of life. From families gathering around a campfire to solo travelers seeking peace, each guest brings their own story, their own bit of magic. We’ve shared laughter, stories, and countless s’mores with guests who now feel like friends. Some return each year, bringing familiar faces and memories, while others pass through on their journeys, leaving a part of their spirit here.

For Dewayne and me, this campground has become an extension of our family and values. Our children and grandchild visit, adding to the joy and love that make this place feel like home. Every improvement we make and every guest we welcome adds another layer to our shared legacy. It’s our hope that one day, this campground will be a place our family remembers with pride—a story of taking risks, working hard, and creating something that brings people together.

As Thanksgiving draws near, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the life this campground has given us. From the landscape to the community, we have been enriched beyond words. Thank you to each camper, family member, and friend who has shared in this journey.
