General Campground Information

Garbage / Trash

Sorry We don't Pick up Garbage at Site Because of Trash being put out late and the Critters tearing it up. We have Dumpsters at the back of the Park for your Convenience.

Wild Life

Research Local Wildlife: We Encourage campers in our area to research the specific animals they might encounter in Glades County (alligators, snakes, various birds, raccoons, opossums, possibly Florida black bears, wild hogs, panthers and bobcats).
• Stay Alert and Aware:
•
• Look and Listen: Pay attention to your surroundings. Look for tracks, scat (droppings), or signs of animal activity. Listen for unusual sounds.
• Avoid Dawn and Dusk: Many animals are most active during these times.
• Don't Wear Headphones: This can limit your ability to hear approaching animals.

• Maintain a Safe Distance: If you see wildlife, observe from a distance. If your presence causes an animal to change its behavior, you're too close. For alligators, a good rule of thumb is to stay at least 25 feet away. For larger animals like bears, 100 yards is recommended if they are present.
• Supervise Children and Pets: Keep children close and pets on a leash at all times and keep a safe distance when walking around the edges of all bodies of water.
• Know What to Do in an Encounter:  Research  basic instructions on how to react to common wildlife encounters (e.g., if an alligator is hissing, slowly back away; if a bear approaches, make yourself look big and make noise, do not run).
•
CAN DO:

• Observe Wildlife from a Safe Distance: Use binoculars or telephoto lenses.
• Keep a Clean Campsite: This is paramount. Store all food and scented items properly.
• Dispose of Trash Properly: Use animal-resistant trash cans and dispose of garbage frequently.
• Report Nuisance Wildlife: If an animal is acting aggressively or seems to be a danger, report it immediately to campground staff or FWC.
• Secure Food:
• Use Designated Fire Pits:
• Leash Pets: We have specific rules regarding pets in our campgrounds. Pets must be leashed and under physical control at all times and cannot be left unattended, including cats. During quiet hours (10 p.m. to 8 a.m.), pets must be in the owner's camping unit. Owners are required to clean up pet waste, and disruptive pets may be removed from the park. All pets must be vaccinated according to Florida law.
• Respect Quiet Hours: Excessive noise can disturb wildlife.

CANNOT DO:
• DO NOT FEED WILDLIFE:
• DO NOT APPROACH OR HARASS WILDLIFE: This includes trying to pet, touch, or get close to any wild animal, even if it seems friendly or injured. This is especially true for young animals,
• DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OR TRASH UNATTENDED: This attracts animals to your campsite.
• DO NOT LEAVE COOLERS OUTSIDE: Even if latched, many animals can get into them.
• DO NOT SWIM OR ALLOW PETS TO SWIM IN UNMARKED WATERS: Especially in Glades County, assume all bodies of water may contain alligators.
