Tunnels of Moose Jaw: Plan Your Visit

If you're planning a camping trip through southern Saskatchewan, there's one Moose Jaw attraction that deserves a spot on your itinerary: the Tunnels of Moose Jaw.

Located beneath the streets of historic downtown Moose Jaw, the Tunnels offer immersive, theatrically guided tours that bring different chapters of Canadian history to life. From Prohibition-era bootlegging to early Chinese immigration and Cold War intrigue, it's an experience unlike anything else you'll find along the Trans-Canada Highway.

When you stay at Moose Jaw KOA Journey, you can enjoy the campground while using it as your home base for a day of exploring the Tunnels and downtown Moose Jaw.

What Are the Tunnels of Moose Jaw?

Tunnels Of Moose Jaw is a year-round attraction located at 18 Main Street North in downtown Moose Jaw. Rather than a traditional museum, the attraction uses costumed character guides, themed environments and interactive storytelling to take visitors into different periods of Canadian history.

There are currently three different tours, so you can choose the experience that interests you most—or make time for more than one.

The Chicago Connection

Want to become a 1920s bootlegger for the day?

The Chicago Connection takes visitors back to the days of Prohibition and explores the stories surrounding Al Capone and Moose Jaw. Guests travel underground while learning about bootlegging and the city's notorious reputation.

Families with younger children should know that this tour includes several flights of stairs along with some loud noises and surprises.

Passage to Fortune

Passage to Fortune tells a much more serious story.

The tour takes visitors back to the early 1900s and explores the experiences of early Chinese immigrants to Canada, including the discriminatory legislation they faced and their perseverance while helping build the country.

The tour is largely on one level, with a short flight of stairs equipped with a lift. Parents should be aware that some of the theatrical character interactions may seem intimidating to very young children.

Bunker 24

For something completely different, step into the Cold War with Bunker 24.

Visitors become new recruits in 1958 as Canada faces the tensions of the nuclear arms race and the Cold War. The interactive experience combines Canadian history with the Tunnels' theatrical style.

Bunker 24 has one short flight of stairs equipped with a lift and includes two short elevator rides.

Can't Decide? Try More Than One Tour

You don't necessarily have to choose just one.

The Tunnels offer two-tour and three-tour combination tickets, which can make sense if you're spending a full day or weekend exploring Moose Jaw. The attraction currently advertises savings of more than 15% with a two-tour combination and more than 25% with a three-tour combination.

If the Tunnels are one of the main reasons for your visit, consider spreading the tours throughout the day and exploring downtown between them.

Book Your Tour Ahead of Time

The Tunnels are one of Moose Jaw's signature attractions, so booking ahead is a good idea—particularly when visiting during the busy summer camping season.

During June, July and August, the Tunnels currently operate daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with different schedules during the rest of the year.

Tour schedules and operating hours can change, so check the official Tunnels of Moose Jaw website when planning your visit.

Leave the RV at the Campground

One advantage of staying at Moose Jaw KOA Journey is that you don't need to take your RV downtown.

Get settled into your campsite, then use your tow vehicle or other transportation to head into Moose Jaw for the day. The Tunnels provide free guest parking, making it easy to park and explore the surrounding downtown area on foot.

Once your tour is finished, there's plenty more to see nearby.

Make a Day of Downtown Moose Jaw

Don't head straight back to the campground when your tour ends.

Moose Jaw's historic downtown is walkable and filled with murals, historic architecture, local shops, cafés and restaurants. Tourism Moose Jaw highlights the city's downtown and public art as some of the features that make Moose Jaw a unique Saskatchewan destination.

Take a walk through nearby Crescent Park, search for some of Moose Jaw's murals, grab lunch or spend some time browsing the downtown shops.

Turning your Tunnels reservation into a full day downtown is an easy way to get more out of your camping trip.

Add a Moose Jaw Trolley Tour

If the Tunnels leave you wanting to learn more about Moose Jaw, consider adding a sightseeing trolley ride.

Tourism Moose Jaw operates a daytime trolley tour that travels through historic downtown, parks and landmark neighbourhoods while sharing stories about Moose Jaw's history, public art, architecture and notable characters.

The daytime tour takes approximately one hour and is suitable for all ages.
