Campground Reviews

We stay there every year we go to Sturgis. We usually spend a night or two before going to Sturgis. We like the Camp Ground, the people that work there and the area where it's located in.

We were fortunate to have found this amazing campground and to be the last guests before they closed for the season. The location is sublime, with lots of trees, immaculate grounds, and proximity to the Badlands National Park. Karen was welcoming from the moment we called, and Bob, Tony, and Evy were so friendly and accommodating. We will be back during summer! Truly the best KOA experience!

Great outside area! Bathrooms are a bit dated with peeling wallpaper but we’re clean.

I stayed for 2 days at the end of September. It wasn't very crowded as it was the last week of their season. The staff was friendly and the bathroom/showers were very clean. Nice place.

Wonderful place to stay to access the Badlands. Park is kept clean and has a nice pool. Even though we didn’t use any other facilities, everything looked well-kept. I just wish we could’ve seen the river, but since they haven’t had enough rain the river is very low and the vegetation around the shoreline is very dense. Would definitely go back.

Site 14. Pros-Great WiFi. Great pull through site, level, good hookups, easy in and out, clean. Staff and store were great. Very near the Badlands park and other attractions. Cons-No cell service(AT&T). Phone booths on site. :o

The staff was nice and the grounds were well kept. The sites are a little tight for larger rigs but it works.

Friendly helpful staff. We stayed here the last night of the season and it was mostly empty, which we were thankful for as the sites are like most KOA's very small and close to each other. We liked this KOA better than the other we stayed at because this KOA has trees! We picked this location because the one closer to the Badlands didn't allow fires and what is camping without a fire?

My only issue was we reserved a patio site to have barbecue and found out they had a charcoal barbecue which required us to purchase charcoal. We ended up using our own barbecue. We have never seen that before at a KOA.

They were able to accommodate our big rig. The pull thru’s towards the back are very spacious and don’t have to worry about trees. We didn’t use the facilities while there. Great wifi service. Nice large dog park. I hope they do fix the pot holes at the entrance. Doesn’t make a good impression when you fist come in the campground.

We were just there overnight but nice staff and sites and facilities.

We visited the Badlands/White River KOA, the last week of the season in a 40" 5th Wheel. This park had 1 thing going for it, proximity to The Badlands. The lanes in this park are very narrow, and the host/hostess had us squeezed into a poor site. After we were set up we walked the grounds, and noticed MANY other sites were available, that would have fit better. The flies were horrible.

Nice shade trees. However the men's washroom up by the office had an "out-of-order" toilet... the ONLY handicapped toilet in the entire campground. This was the case for our entire stay. Otherwise no problems.

While very close to Badlands Nat'l Park that is about all it is close to. Make sure you're stocked up on groceries and don't plan on dining out locally as there is nothing close by. Also the bathrooms/ shower facilities are in desperate need of a makeover.

This review has been removed by KOA due to profanity.

Flies! Everywhere. Tight spaces. GREAT wifi. Good for a 1-2 day stop at the badland NP that's only 4 miles away. No problem leaving through the reservation to the southeast. I think the checkpoint is a covid check thing.

Great site but facilities were not very clean.

Loved the location, helpful & friendly check-in, very clean Camping Cabin, & very clean main restroom/showers. Sorry we couldn't stay longer...on our way to the 2021 Buffalo Roundup!

Nice park sites were partly shaded and level. Staff was helpful.

First cabin we were assigned had wasps. Went to tell the owners and they moved us and said hopefully there’s none in that one. No one ever came to make sure there wasn’t or that there wasn’t a problem left for the day when we came back there were wasps in the new cabin. We had to kill them ourselves so that we didn’t get stung during the night. First time not 100% satisfied

Not a bad KOA - out in the "boonies" quaint area - close to the Badland National Park

Tried to spot my trailer on site where I had to park tow truck off site, but after some persuasion they found site with the proper length. They have a dump station for small towable but I would not even try with 30' TT & truck. but problem solved the will send a vacuum truck to your site to pump out your waste water, did not ask about price because only stayed 2 days.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Tent sites are real nice. They have a couple cool teepees also. The river going thru the back of the sites is pretty neat. Campground very well kept and maintained. Pancake breakfast was very nice. There were other extra breakfast items available for low cost. Overall a very nice set up. Pool was very nice also.

Our cabin had all the amenities of an Airbnb! White fluffy towels, nightlights, reading lights, comfy beds, coffee, patio set, glider for porch, grill…will definitely come back!

Very nice campground unfortunately we only had 1 night to spend here. Staff was great. Bought a beautiful knife as a gift in the store. Access to Badlands wonderful-actually went thru the park to get here. Phone service borderline for ATT but wifi was very good. Highly recommend and definitely will return.

Beautiful campground, clean, quiet, felt safe, perfect cabin stay. Staff was very kind, thank you!

Staff was very helpful. Great location only 5 miles from Badlands National Park entrance. Bathroom facilities are in dire need of updating and a deep cleaning. Ceiling vents were full of dust and disgusting! Torn wallpaper and broken light fixtures.

The cable went out and it was fixed the next day. Thanks for your prompt attention to the matter!

We go every year in September. It keeps looking better each year. Always enjoy seeing the owners, they even remember my name. Looking forward to bringing our Church there next year.

Pull through site was too short for car and motor home.

Stayed for two nights while visiting Badlands NP. This KOA is very quiet, facilities are well maintained, will not hesitate to stay there again.

Great Place! Wish they were open later!

We deove in from the Black Hills and took Highway 44 - was a mistake on our part to choose this route - would have been helpful if there had been information on how bad this road was before we took it. We sustained damage to our bile rack, but thankfully the camper and truck did okay. Couple who ckecked us in and took us to our site were friendly.

We had a wonderful stay at The KOA in the Badlands, we have been here before and stayed in the cabins which is peaceful and you have a great view of the South Dakota sky. We love this campground so much we bought a travel trailer and returned this year. The campground is clean and well kept we will recommend this spot to anyone who wants to camp in the Badlands. Thank you

Staff friendly bathroom were never once cleaned!!! When we were there just trash asked for the hornet nest to be taken care of .. nope ! Same in laundry room. They cared more about painting owners house. But sure knew how to drive around a lot and look like they were busy . If there was an other camp ground with water and electric close we would have left. Worst KOA we have stayed at...

Rating: 4/5 from a KOA Holiday perspective Overall: We stayed 1 night in September 2021 with a 37ft Class A with a tow vehicle. Nice KOA Holiday with many options for RV and camping sites and lots of shade (vs. the Cedar Pass Badlands campground). Overpriced for a 1-night stop for which Cedar Pass may be a better choice, but a great option if you plan to spend multiple nights and enjoy the amenities. Campsite/Campground: The campground was very spacious and overall easy to maneuver. We had some confusion on the way out due to some one-way signs, but cleared driving the wrong way in a one-way with staff and made it out ok :) . Great shade in many sites, especially Jackalope Lane, Prairie Dog Trail, turkey run, Coyote Path, and Hoot Owl Drive. We had site 143 which was a patio site with LOTS of space between sites. Great site if you plan to spend a few days or week, but over priced for a quick stayover as we didn't have time to enjoy the space. Hookups: We had 50A and full hookup site with patio that included a table, chairs and propane grill. Furniture was brand new and in great condition. Hookups were a challenge – they were very far from the rig and we needed to be creative to get the sewer lines connected (see picture). Glad we had extensions! Amenities: The site looked to have great amenities. The breakfast was held in a brand-new pole barn and overall things were well kept, we just didn't have time to enjoy them with a 1-night stay. Service/Staff: Staff was good at check-in. Other: We have stayed at both the KOA and Cedar Pass campground. Cedar Pass has its challenges (from flooding to windstorms). If you are looking to stay between the two, we would suggest that if you have a soft-sided camping unit (tent or pop-up) then the KOA is the best choice to avoid flooding or wind issues. The KOA is also the best place if you are spending more than one night, as it has amenities vs. Cedar Pass which has none other than showers/restrooms. If you have a hard-sided camper and are doing a 1-night stay, Cedar Pass may be a better option with better views.
