Well worth the price and it was a great trip.

I stayed for 2 days at the end of September. It wasn't very crowded as it was the last week of their season. The staff was friendly and the bathroom/showers were very clean. Nice place.

Great site but facilities were not very clean.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Tent sites are real nice. They have a couple cool teepees also. The river going thru the back of the sites is pretty neat. Campground very well kept and maintained. Pancake breakfast was very nice. There were other extra breakfast items available for low cost. Overall a very nice set up. Pool was very nice also.

Staff was very helpful. Great location only 5 miles from Badlands National Park entrance. Bathroom facilities are in dire need of updating and a deep cleaning. Ceiling vents were full of dust and disgusting! Torn wallpaper and broken light fixtures.

Facilities were ok for a night but sites were very close together and the next campsite’s dog barked frequently. In all fairness I am a backpacker and this was a one night stop on my way to a backpacking trip. It got the job done and it looked like it might be fun for families.

Wonderful place to stay. We’ll organized and clean. Very friendly staff. Will stay here again. Loved the tent village.

Bathrooms were filthy. I don’t think the toilet or shower has been scrubbed all season. I liked the sink to wash dishes though. That was a nice amenity.

Always a great campground to stay at. Always clean and comfortable every time and the staff is always friendly. Fifth visit in 3 years and I'll keep coming back.

We always stop at this KOA on our way to Cody WY. The sites, bathrooms/shower houses are always clean! Friendly staff. Beautiful area! Would highly recommend!

Very nice and QUIET!!!!!

Wonderful campground. Staff went out of their way. So friendly. Clean restrooms. Free pancake breakfast! Quiet. Safe. Beautiful surroundings. Great deluxe tent sites. Will definitely stay here again!

need more bathroom / shower facilities in the tent / electric sites. Poor cell phone and internet service due to location. Staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast and dinner offerings were great.

There seemed to be a lot of people working at the campground. It would have been nice if a couple of the men had driven around the campground after 10pm to make sure things were quiet. We were in DT5 and the family in DT3 were extremely noisy after 10pm. The hand dryer in the women's bathroom didn't work and the sink area could have used some attention later in the day. Very well stocked store.

Very friendly people really liked the FREE Pancake Breakfast & showers / Restroom house was clean

Great!

The bathrooms need updating and cleaning and the firewood prices are robbery. Other than that it was a good stay.

The tent site didn’t have a great place to lay the tent without it being on top of ant hills, so I ended up a little uphill on a slope. Bob the staff was remarkable.

I had a very good visit with the owner Mr. Brown , he has a nice park we enjoyed our stay very much PS check out the awesome handmade knives I had to buy one while I was there

It was horrible. We were harassed from the beginning about every little thing. There is a way to communicate that gets a point across and still encourages a non stressful camping experience. Bob and his staff have no idea how to do that. In addition to pay extra to have a campsite near a non existent river or dried out river bed is crazy and it is not indicated it would cost more. Deceiving!

I loved every part of it. The bathrooms, porta potties, and showers were clean. All the staff was very friendly and the pancakes were super good. Bob the owner is a very nice man who we enjoyed speaking to. Definitely will be back every single year!

Nice place to stay. Showers and restrooms were clean. Staff was not going out of their way to be friendly but also we’re not rude. After saying hello in passing a couple employees and getting no response I can only assume they are instructed not to speak with guests or are not real friendly.

Restrooms were dirty, cicadas were deafening, but the free pancakes made up for it!

Great location! 4 miles to Badlands. Well run. Fun stay.

Great staff would definitely stay there again

3rd time staying there this year. Staff is super friendly, proximity to the Badlands is excellent, and the campground is clean. I like that there's trees for shade since the area can get hot. I highly recommend.

I've stayed at a few KOAs now, and this was the best. The tent camp sites were nice and shaded and didn't feel like they were an afterthought of the RV sites. They have a POOL that was clean and refreshing with the SD summer heat. they offer a free pancake breakfast! The owners clearly make a huge effort to make this campground fun and welcoming!

Because of the area and camp amenities I would use again or tell people about it. But tent village sink and counters were not cleaned. Rat poop all over. Also restrooms are never mopped or even sprayed with disinfected. Shower curtains all brown and yellow. So is shower. Mildew, mold, I know it’s camping but easy way for germs, viruses, diseases to spread.

Nice tent site, loved the free pancakes; however, while the shower was clean the water pressure was horrible. Had to use the lower accessible shower head to take a shower with since the upper head wouldn't work.

Loved the campground and the campground owner! Great place and very warm and welcoming.

Every single KOA staffer we had the pleasure to run into was AMAZING!! The free pancakes are such a nice gesture and the man that was flipping them was so sweet! This is definitely the place to stay when visiting the Badlands!!!
Aug 24, 2021
Great amenities and we were placed in a more secluded area of the campground. There was a large group with kids close by, but the quiet hours were enforced.
Aug 24, 2021
Nice staff. Clean bathrooms. Way too many flies. Burger was grey and bun soggy, horrible food.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Please be sure to notify the cookshack staff when you receive unsatisfactory food, so they can remake it. And we have been quite proactive about fly abatement this year, though nearby cattle constantly amend our supply.

Great sites and location. Owners are nice and the pancake breakfast is amazing.

Everything was great except the major winds, which they can’t control the weather LOL.
Aug 21, 2021
The free pancakes in the morning were awesome! Got to sit and chat with some other campers, really family oriented and makes you feel at home

Great camp sites, great bathrooms with showers, and the people running the office were friendly and accommodating!!!

Nicely wooded, staff was friendly, washers and dryers worked well, quiet. Read about this location in a top 10 listicle, and would definitely recommend. Stayed here 4 nights with a travel trailer.

Rating: 4/5 from a KOA Holiday perspective Overall: We stayed 1 night in September 2021 with a 37ft Class A with a tow vehicle. Nice KOA Holiday with many options for RV and camping sites and lots of shade (vs. the Cedar Pass Badlands campground). Overpriced for a 1-night stop for which Cedar Pass may be a better choice, but a great option if you plan to spend multiple nights and enjoy the amenities. Campsite/Campground: The campground was very spacious and overall easy to maneuver. We had some confusion on the way out due to some one-way signs, but cleared driving the wrong way in a one-way with staff and made it out ok :) . Great shade in many sites, especially Jackalope Lane, Prairie Dog Trail, turkey run, Coyote Path, and Hoot Owl Drive. We had site 143 which was a patio site with LOTS of space between sites. Great site if you plan to spend a few days or week, but over priced for a quick stayover as we didn't have time to enjoy the space. Hookups: We had 50A and full hookup site with patio that included a table, chairs and propane grill. Furniture was brand new and in great condition. Hookups were a challenge – they were very far from the rig and we needed to be creative to get the sewer lines connected (see picture). Glad we had extensions! Amenities: The site looked to have great amenities. The breakfast was held in a brand-new pole barn and overall things were well kept, we just didn't have time to enjoy them with a 1-night stay. Service/Staff: Staff was good at check-in. Other: We have stayed at both the KOA and Cedar Pass campground. Cedar Pass has its challenges (from flooding to windstorms). If you are looking to stay between the two, we would suggest that if you have a soft-sided camping unit (tent or pop-up) then the KOA is the best choice to avoid flooding or wind issues. The KOA is also the best place if you are spending more than one night, as it has amenities vs. Cedar Pass which has none other than showers/restrooms. If you have a hard-sided camper and are doing a 1-night stay, Cedar Pass may be a better option with better views.
