Campground Reviews

Just 10mins from Ben Reifel visitor center/ badlands although you can’t see the badlands from the park. Park covered in trees. Excellent free breakfast pancakes, also offer quick dinner options in their nice airy pavilion. Huge dog park! Bathrooms could need a little updating but overall loved our stay! Owners are onsite and very helpful, definitely recommend!

Everything was great and as expected. An added bonus was free pancakes!

Lovely place, just very LOUD (and I don’t mean the cicadas!). After 10:00, people were still partying, yelling, and carrying on…. Maybe it was just one unlucky night for me. I have not had that experience there before, but with more people everywhere, it may be necessary to enforce basic courtesy rules a bit more!

One of our favs!! The Indian tacos are amazing!! We love the deluxe cabins, very comfortable. Only thing, which may be out of camps control, are the wasps under/around the front porch, especially with little ones running around. Location is beautiful and perfect for exploring the Badlands. Staff was friendly and helpful!! We will return!!

One of the best KOAs we've stayed at. Great pool dining hall was unexpected. Great location. Will definitely recommend

This campground had everything we needed and was close to the Badlands. The staff was extremely friendly.

Cabin was very nice, clean and had great amenities

Nice big campsites. Nice cook shack if you do not want to cook. Lots of signs with lots of rules, which seemed unnecessary to me. Hard to find with GPS - they tell you to use coordinates instead of the address but my Garmin couldn't find it that way. We used intersection and that worked well.

We stayed for one night on our way out to Yellowstone from MN and it was wonderful. We took advantage of the dinner they offered (a few burgers, pizza, fries, etc), along with the free pancake breakfast! All the employees were super friendly, the kids played with the small playground equipment, and (aside from the cicadas) it was very quiet. Will definitely stay again.

Great place. Very well ran.

Pro: Likely the best campground nearest the Badlands National Park Cons: Sites are very close. Ours had the neighbor’s water hookup directly outside our camper door. Bathrooms, especially the showers indeed of an upgrade I would camp there again only for the proximity to the park. Not for any of the amenities

I liked the pancake breakfast in the morning.

Very nice employees, the 2nd bath needs attention, updating & could be cleaner & AC like the other bath attached to the checkin and store. The AC units in the Kamper Kabins need to run at all temps not just 78 degrees. Vicious dogs should not be allowed.

Location was good, but the feel was a large operation hustle you in and out. Also, maintenance seemed to lack

Stayed at the Badlands KOA for 2 nights on our way to Rapid City KOA. We wanted to spend a little more time in the Badlands since it is usually somewhere you quickly pass through on your way to the Black Hills. Badlands KOA was perfect. Mature shade trees, nice pool and office and great free pancakes in the morning cooked by Bob himself. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful campground with mature trees, cliff swallows, and some spectacular cicadas- a nature lovers dream. The pool was cool in the summer afternoons, laundry facilities were clean and functional, and the pancakes were great! Thanks for the hospitality!

First time ever staying at a KOA. My friend and I enjoyed every minute of it. Great place to pitch a tent and feel safe.

Wish we could of stayed longer!! One of the best KOA Campgrounds by far! Such an amazing atmosphere and if you like breakfast, they do FREE Pancakes in the morning!! So many things to do and great for the kids. I can’t wait to take my family back there again!!!!

Nice place a kind and helpful staff. Thank you for making the stay confortable when surrounded by a difficult terrain.

Very crowded Saturday night. Hound dog yowling gently and intermittently all night. People coming in after 10:30 p.m., when it was finally quiet, from the Cedar Pass star show were loud - rude! The pool was comfortable, but the ladder was broken and hanging at a precarious angle - dangerous! Get it together, people.

The staff at this campground were beyond friendly and helpful! I am sure it'ss hard to operate a business in such a remote location, but everyone went out of their way to help us get set up, answer questions, and even assisted with my daughter's wheelchair. The grounds were lovely- perfect shaded sites, but we could walk to open area for stargazing, which is spectacular at the Badlands. 10/10!

Awesome stay. Great campground.

I would have been nice to know in advance that the Pool was closed. There were other KOAs that we could have stayed at instead. We were still charged the full price even with less amenities.

This was a nice KOA. My only complaint was that the back end of the campground (sites for tents etc. that do not have their own bathroom) had only 2 restrooms and they were family restrooms. This was a nice feature but while my family took showers we held up a toilet and sink for 30 minutes. The family restrooms were not very clean and floor was very slippery because of shower being in there.

Perfect location to visit the Badlands. Super host.

The bathrooms, showers and laundry are wonderful! When scheduling I mentioned that I am handicapped and have trouble walking and we were placed next to the bathroom and that was greatly appreciated. Everyone was very friendly, the cafe was delicious and the gift shop is great. Unfortunately the weather ruined the movie and we didn't get to do the hayride but I would love to come back!

Awesome place, away from Bad Lands a bit but we’ll worth it. Great service, dinner snd breakfast (add cost) carrying staff and great for kids. Oh, and free pancakes in the morning!!

Nice, clean park. Free breakfast pancakes was a nice perk. Would stay here again if in the area.

This was one of our best KOA experiences. The owners were kind and generous with their time and knowledge. They also made free pancakes for breakfast and that was so nice to enjoy. They are about 4 miles from the Badlands State Park, but it is worth staying there to know you are in a great place with friendly and helpful people nearby. I would stay there again for sure if I headed that way again.

A very busy park but was well maintained. Restrooms were clean. Very quiet after 10:00 P.M.

If there were 6 stars possible, I would give them all to this campground. Our experience - clean bathrooms, excellent staff communication, easy facilities, great people - everything was close to perfect. KOA is amazing - especially the. lovely Bob. BONUS - yummy free pancakes!

Nicely wooded, staff was friendly, washers and dryers worked well, quiet. Read about this location in a top 10 listicle, and would definitely recommend. Stayed here 4 nights with a travel trailer.

Rating: 4/5 from a KOA Holiday perspective Overall: We stayed 1 night in September 2021 with a 37ft Class A with a tow vehicle. Nice KOA Holiday with many options for RV and camping sites and lots of shade (vs. the Cedar Pass Badlands campground). Overpriced for a 1-night stop for which Cedar Pass may be a better choice, but a great option if you plan to spend multiple nights and enjoy the amenities. Campsite/Campground: The campground was very spacious and overall easy to maneuver. We had some confusion on the way out due to some one-way signs, but cleared driving the wrong way in a one-way with staff and made it out ok :) . Great shade in many sites, especially Jackalope Lane, Prairie Dog Trail, turkey run, Coyote Path, and Hoot Owl Drive. We had site 143 which was a patio site with LOTS of space between sites. Great site if you plan to spend a few days or week, but over priced for a quick stayover as we didn't have time to enjoy the space. Hookups: We had 50A and full hookup site with patio that included a table, chairs and propane grill. Furniture was brand new and in great condition. Hookups were a challenge – they were very far from the rig and we needed to be creative to get the sewer lines connected (see picture). Glad we had extensions! Amenities: The site looked to have great amenities. The breakfast was held in a brand-new pole barn and overall things were well kept, we just didn't have time to enjoy them with a 1-night stay. Service/Staff: Staff was good at check-in. Other: We have stayed at both the KOA and Cedar Pass campground. Cedar Pass has its challenges (from flooding to windstorms). If you are looking to stay between the two, we would suggest that if you have a soft-sided camping unit (tent or pop-up) then the KOA is the best choice to avoid flooding or wind issues. The KOA is also the best place if you are spending more than one night, as it has amenities vs. Cedar Pass which has none other than showers/restrooms. If you have a hard-sided camper and are doing a 1-night stay, Cedar Pass may be a better option with better views.
