Tent Reviews

Great stay. Despite mistake and our campsite was given away without our knowledge. Staff resolved with apology and refund. Otherwise a cool Koa to stay at and we loved the hike right off the grounds

A nice area. Tent site access needs improvement: roads are too rough. Tent sites need better WiFi. Bathrooms and common areas are pleasant and well maintained.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Sounds like you'd be better off in our Deluxe Tent area. You booked a primitive tent site... so it's primitive.

We stay two nights. One in primitive and one un deluxe campsites. The staff was knowledgeable about the town and suggested places to eat and visit. The place was clean and nice.

Best KOA I’ve stayed at.

Excellent tourist tips from staff. Liked lots of trees & flowers by campsite. Excellent bathrooms, laundry room, general facilities. Gravel pad for tent was good but picnic table tilted on hillside so items kept sliding off. Not controllable by KOA but mining flights (industrial helicopters?) very close & extremely noisy-waking people before sunrise.

Love this location! Very clean and beautiful views. Staff was very friendly and personable.
Jul 07, 2021
Beautiful views, guests respected quiet hours for the most part; we loved the outdoor kitchen (since we forgot our cook pans at home). Would have been nice if there was another restroom facility as the one was always either really busy or pretty gross from so many guests using so few toilets.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for the review, Daniel. We do our best to police restrooms several times a day and respond to any report of a mess immediately. Holiday weekend mornings are a challenge, though. Would love to have another bathhouse, but there are some utility constraints when you live in a remote area.

Amazing, great experience! Nice, friendly, and helpful staff. Very clean facilities. Although camping solo I felt safe. Already reserved to go back in September. Loved it!

Had a great time! Will be back again soon!

KOA Cripple Creek was great for my family. It was everything I expected except for one issue. The campsite we originally were assigned was only accessible by an SUV or the like. After we tried and failed getting up the steep hill to tent site 11 in our van, the staff accommodated us with a normal site. This was very unexpected--there being a site that was not accessible to a regular vehicle.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for the review Rebecca, and glad you had a good stay! Site 11 does have quite a steep approach, although most folks do not have issues getting a regular vehicle up the hill. I suspect rain/wet grass may have made it more difficult. Glad we were able to accommodate you in another site!

The stay was first class. All of the amenities were well maintained. The staff was hospitable and always tending to the kamp. We will recommend this site and be back.

Awesome stay and first camping trip for my daughter.

Very clean and nice area.

The tent site was very private (11). The facility was clean and friendly. It was a good location for many day trips.

It was a great stay. It would have been nice for dogs to be allowed in the building since I have to walk the dogs in the morning and I usually have to go to the bathroom then too. That was the only inconvenience I did not experience in other KOA’s

Absolutely beautiful tent camp sites. Very clean showers and bathroom. Super friendly staff. This is one of our favorite KOAs!

Nice hosts - excellently maintained. $4 pancake breakfast- sat-sun!!

Very remote with great high mountains atmosphere. Shower room was very clean and operational. Great service and a very friendly hostess upon arrival. As a tent camper it was way better than most. Lots of privacy.

Everything was organized and clean, staff was friendly and happy. Close to Cripple Creek town for day visits

I really enjoyed my weekend at KOA Cripple Creek. It is a clean and safe camp site run by professional and friendly staff. Hope to visit again soon!
Jun 13, 2021
We got in late at night, but it was easy to get our site information and the restrooms were clean that late at night.. The tent area was efficient. We liked the table area and lighting. The kids and adults loved watching the prairie dogs peaking out of their homes and running around. It was a great experience! The staff was very kind and helpful. The facilities were welcoming and clean!

Enjoyed our tent stay very much. Top notch staff and facility. SPECTACULAR location and setting to not be a national or state park. Only weird thing was the traffic noise from the highway. The acoustics of the valley make it carry so it's kind of loud considering how far away it is. Should only be a problem if you want to sleep late in a tent. Shouldn't be sleeping late anyway. Too much to see/do!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Hard to sleep late when the sun rises around 5 too! :)

Tent site T4, early June. Overall A+ experience. 3 things: Shwrs/bthrms/trash a long hike from site (nthng to do abt this, I admit). ID potable water on map/signage. T4, dead aspen around site should be removed (widowmakers, and someone will try to burn). Remote sites maybe new-ish, and still being established? Clean sites/facilities. Staff helpful, but that’s it. Hummingbirds! Polite guests.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for the review, Robert! We removed dead trees just a few weeks ago, but I did revisit T4 and took down a few more today. I appreciate you pointing that out! We have a camp kitchen clearly identified on our maps, and any water spigot (except dump station) provides potable water. Glad you found staff to be helpful but not sure what "that's it" means.

Enjoyed the visit. Great facilities and pleasant staff.

It was a great weekend getaway. We camped in T7. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed using the amenities when the weather didn't cooperate.

Took my wife, kids, and dogs to one if the tent sites and had a blast in the area, absolutely want to come back again. They have a really nice trail to hike at the back, but make sure you don't bring small kids or dogs on it. Most of it would be fine for then but the top as a good bit of scrambling and would be hard for then to go up and down that section.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks, David! The trail across BLM land out our back gate is not easy, although there are parts enjoyable by all ages and pets. Boulder scrambling at the top can be a challenge, but how about that 360 view, including Pike's and the Collegiate fourteeners!

Beautiful area and a very quiet and peaceful campground. The tent sites in the Aspen trees are top notch.

Unfortunately we had some tent issues, and with the weather we had to only stay one night. We had such a blast while we were there! The staff was kind, they were helpful when the tent ripped and we needed some tape. Bonus of the entire trip was the pancake breakfast! SO yummy! We will definitely have to try this campground again when it won't rain!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Glad you made the best of your stay in spite of the rain, and thank you for the compliments! Weather typically dries out early June through mid-August so hope you can come back to enjoy some sunnier days!

Clean and great amenities plus very friendly staff. We will come back!

At the KOA, Great people, great tent site, great facilities. TERRIBLE WEATHER! The town of Cripple Creek itself is a smoke filled casino trap, won't go there again.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Glad you enjoyed your stay with us in spite of the weather! Unfortunate you didn't get to see Cripple Creek beyond the casinos. The area has a very rich wild-west gold mining history. Old mine headframes abound and there are 4 museums as well as a narrow gauge railway. Plenty to see if you take the time to look!

We drove from Indiana and tented at Cripple Creek for the first time for a week. Every night, we heard coyotes and elk, saw bald eagles and mountain goats during the day and heard about a mountain lion nearby. The landscape is breathtaking (this was our 1st time in CO), the hosts were wonderful, facility clean. Only complaints are the tent spots were a bit too close together. We’ll still be back

Our tent site was excellent. We appreciated the shelter for the picnic table, and especially the built-in shelf (perfect for the Coleman stove and cooking). And, we were fortunate to be there for the Fall colors. Beautiful!! Friendly and helpful staff. The restrooms were well maintained and clean. Due to fire restrictions, we didn't have a campfire but look forward to that in the future.

Great standard tent sites in the trees that felt further away from RVs. Friendly and helpful staff. Rentable propane fire bowl was a nice bonus!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were very clean. Showers were small but well maintained. Gorgeous area.

Awesome place. We stayed in a cabin for 2 nights it was clean and perfect for camping. The park grounds are open and not much to see but the background is gorgeous and there is a trail leading up the mountain on the trail we found fresh bear marks witch was awesome to see and makes perfect sense why they warn you not to leave out food.

Always a fan of KOA, but this one was especially impressive to us. It is family owned and operated, and it is evident in the upkeep that the family is proud of their business. The cabin we stayed in was immaculate, they were even installing a screen door on it when we checked in, perfect for cool mountain breezes! The campground also has a fully-stocked outdoor kitchen which was a fun experience in itself. I think our kids' favorite however were the pedal carts available for rent. Lastly, keep an eye out on the way up! There are wildlife in the surrounding woods, we saw half a dozen mountain sheep on the way in! 100% intend to return!
