We stayed in one of the new glamping cabins. We had a very nice stay. The up grades that were made to the cabin were awesome and we look forward to staying in one the next time we are in the black hills.

It was great. But! If you close a bathroom get porta potties. These was a lot of folks waiting to use the bathroom.

We loved our time here!! We were very close to the extra amenities and my kids’ favorite was the mini golf. We had a wonderful time at the scheduled activities also, like the movies at night or the rodeo. Well done, Palmer Gulch!!

Nice set up for RV’s. Would have been nice to get information regarding everything included & hours open such as pool - restaurant or pancake breakfast - store hours etc…. Shuttle to my Rushmore was nice but 3 hours was a little long. 2 hours would be adequate or options for those that don’t want to be there that long

Stay was great with the exception of power surges during hot spells

Friendly staff, tons of activities, coffee and food (food was ok but convenient), this place has everything you need! It’s close to crazy horse and Mount Rushmore and a beautiful drive to Deadwood! Can’t wait to return!

THE STAY HERE WAS MORE ENJOYABLE THAN EXPECTED. I HIGHLY RATE THIS CAMPGROUND AS A TOP NOTCH PLACE TO STAY AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL.

No wifi at our site. No Verizon either. Motorhome tailpipe crushed on tree stump. Unlevel site.

If I could give the campground a 20 I would! There is so much to do and enjoy here. Good recreation. Highly recommend the chuck wagon dinner. We took advantage of the horse rides, also. The only recommendation is to keep ALL the laundry facilities open. The one near our campsite was closed so I had to drive my laundry to the location near the entrance.

Wonderful campground in a beautiful setting with great facilities. Lots of things to do. I liked the stores and choice of food also. A nice resort.

Main complaint is very poor WiFi. They advertise having WiFi. This KOA is owned by the largest KOA franchisee. No reason this KOA could not improve their WiFi infrastructure. They should remove WiFi from their amenities list or clarify it is very weak. Positive: The Tap Room is great and operated by a very nice family. Pam gave us a ride back to the KOA after we dropped it off to be repaired.

This is a great campground resort for families with children. We are not that. We are two seniors with a shih-tzu. We reserved a deluxe pull-thru with a patio to have a bit more space and privacy. Instead, we were assigned site 303 in the very first row facing the “Fun Zone”. While it was very close to the showers, bathrooms, and the Fun Zone, it was a hub of activity, not our style.

Because it was dark we did not See the exit for 16A so we had to park at a hotel Parking lot But was able to arrive around 9 and check out at 12nnoon. No one in town didn’t know about the KOA. There needs to be more signage on the highway and also advertise that the KOA is where Mount Rushmore Is located . Our GPS lead us to a different Palmer Gulch road which was dark and scary .

We had a great time.

Nicely done for the most part; lots of activities for people staying a long time. We were only there a few days and the park seemed too busy (it didn't help that Sturgis rally was on that week). There was too much foot and vehicle traffic 24 hours a day, and the RV campsite on the third day was pretty tiny. Many of the guests don't seem to get RV etiquette, like "dont walk through other sites".

Nice campground but very expensive. Bathrooms are all wrong. Scarcely placed in tent areas where there actually needed and the really nice ones are placed in the midst of fully functional, full size campers.

We have been coming here for 22 years. Started in the over flow tent to an RV. Always at the STURGIS rally. We love it here at this KOA. It has everything we need. See you next year.

Everything was fabulous as usual except the bathrooms. The shower floors were always full of mucky water and the molding and tiles are old and cracked and need to be replaced. Staff was very nice.

Awesome place but no internet which is good & bad. Meet some great neighbors & will keep in touch with them. Went horse back riding & was fun.
Aug 14, 2021
No cell signal or tv signal which isnt your fault but does effect the stay. Internet , if you can get on was terribly slow but again the KOA was packed. The park offered a wide variety of things to do for all ages, loved the lay out and retail shops. We enjoyed ourselves and would come back.

Basically a really nice place. One staff member was a little rude but everyone else was great. WiFi was horrible the entire stay.

the reason I rated 4 is because of 2 things. First the quad rentals are a scam. They threaten you with all kinds of fees if you do any damage to the point where you don't even want to go.Then the area that they have listed as ridable can be covered in less than 1.5 hours. On a 3 hour rental you come back early. They should provide a better map and alternatives. 2nd, the site was too small.

Nice and clean, Good views. RV spots on smaller side. We needed to stay one more day to be able to see the rodeo.

Love staying here we have stayed here for the last 2 years for sturgis and we going to make it a yearly trip everything is amazing there so much to do and everyone that works there is really nice. Can't wait to go back as much as we can.

Our children loved the water slide and the jumping pillow. The splash park was a nice way to cool off as the pool was pretty full most of the time we were there. We enjoyed the mini golf and seeing the horses in the stable. Walking to the restroom after dark from our campsite was a challenge as it was very dark and quite a distance to get there. Overall, we had a great time.

Close to everything you want to see in the Black Hills/ Mt. Rushmore area. Beautiful location and grounds with lots of friendly, courteous and helpful staff available. Grounds and Lots of amenities that made our stay easier - the campground is very large and we were not near our travelling companions but they had golf carts available to rent that really helped. Poor WiFi at campsites.

The stay was great! We had a wonderful time. The only complaint we have was that our bathrooms needed more attention. The bathrooms closest to our site were also the ones for the pool and activity area. Many times the men’s toilets were clogged and out of toilet paper. The floors were dirty and overall smelled like they needed to be cleaned. Otherwise, everything else was great!

It was so pretty, very clean. Showers were free loved the water slide.. Would definitely go back and stay and would recommend. Don't know why the splash pad closed early compared to everything else?

I especially want to thank the ladies in the office. I was trying desperately to contact my family in another vehicle to schedule the chuckwagon dinner but I had no service. They kindly let me use their phone. Also the lady at the desk for the chuckwagon dinner went over and above to help me get scheduled. Our grandkids loved the fun zone too. THANKS

The young Lady that registered us on arrival was very polite and did an excellent job managing our campsite she was very accommodating to our needs AAAAAA+++++ on her performance and the amenities at the campground itself. We have stayed at many campgrounds in the area and this was the best one hands down. Thanks and you will see us again soon.

Rodeo was awesome. What a great stay!

Very nice deluxe patio. Would stay again. A little more crowded than I like. The dog park needs some water features or a pool for them but that's asking a lot I know. Thank you for the wonderful time!

The best camp ground that we have visited yet. Great People and the camp ground is fantastic

Wonderful stay at the palmer gulch KOA. There were so many amenities and things for the kids to do. We will be back!

Nice campground nice staff. But only two working laundry rooms for a campground that size which was full is not enough. Plus half of the washers didn’t work in one and it WAS NOT CLEAN. the showers attached to that laundry room were gross and old.

Wifi was non existent, laundry and showers to cabins were not open, sites too sloped, felt bad for bikers not having better services, Good part was close to Mt Rushmore and easy to find this koa. Staff was great, they were helpful. Campground was clean.

Sturgis week, campground always looked great, people wonderful. Only issue is pool/jacuzzi area, not maintained well and jacuzzi always cold snd water looked dirty
Aug 13, 2021
It was very crowded and busy. They should have had ‘every other’ camp spot booked vs EVERY SPOT when not all of the amenities are available. Too many people in the cloudy pool. Bathrooms not available at the pool, need better upkeep on the bathrooms. We loved the live music, the on-site rentals and the coffee shop was good. We found what we needed at the little on site grocery shop.

We dry docked for the night since they are closed for the season. This KOA is very beautiful with deer coming right up to the front door.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nites, and it was Phenomenal. A beautiful Resort atmosphere and even though it was at the very end of the season, every one there was very helpful and especially Becky. She is so knowledgeable about the area. I worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and I would hire here in a heartbeat to work with. KOA is very fortunate to have employees of this caliber.

This KOA is in a perfect location and would love to stay here again. We rented a glammed cabin which is just a upgrade from their simple cabins but well worth it in my opinion. Your cabin already comes with bedding, a mini fridge, microwave, outdoor grill and table and chairs. You have a beautiful view of the woods and the campground itself has so many activities. You're right in the middle of the black forest, custer state park and Mt Rushmore. I will definitely be staying there again.
