Campground Reviews

This is a great campground! Bathrooms are nice, cute little village on site. Very nice location. Beautiful scenery. We loved our stay!

Very cramped spaces. No cellular unless using roof mounted directional antenna. WiFi oversubscribed. Quiet period not honored and heavy traffic on roads.

When making reservations it was listed preffered spot (picture had trees, zero trees.) Other than that people were super friendly. Place was clean and well organized. Next time I will request a part of campground that we desire.

Very accommodating and beautiful. One thing I would suggest, is to keep the horses around longer on Labor Day, that was one of the neatest things there, other than the many activities for the littles!!! Really enjoyed the Rodeo on site!! We will definitely be back!!!!

Clean, friendly, and close to Mt. Rushmore. We would stay again there as they have a lot of activities to do

Great atmosphere for kids, there is a lot for them to do. Upper loop sites hard to get leveled. Ended up being there through the Labor Day weekend and it was a zoo. Loved the area for riding off road vehicles. Close to all the parks and small cities. By biggest dislike was having verrrry… limited unsecured WiFi and no cell service (Verizon) and we were there for 6days. Rented UTV priced ri

Showers were disgusting and water was luke warm at best. Pancake breakfast was good

Awesome stay. We would return if in the area.

Best campsite in US - very scenic! Lots of amenities for families & knowledgeable front office staff! Very much enjoyed our stay!

Biggest issue was lack of cell phone use while in campground. This became a huge issue when a major hailstorm hit and every vehicle in the campground suffered damage. My brother also staying there, had limited cell usage, so I was able to call insurance company for assistance - however cell reception was terrible and very hard to communicate. Since car was disabled - this was a big problem.

Almost all amenities closed on Labor Day (not just water features). This was not conveyed when booking so kids disappointed there was no jump pad and no bike rental. Adults disappointed that restaurants and bars closed. Other KOAs leave jump pad open for entire camping season. If accepting reservations thru October than amenities should be available. Otherwise it should be conveyed and cheaper.

Web site states that full hook ups come with cable. After booking full hook up site and checking in they only have cable at a few sites. The WiFi is horrible and won’t even connect. Pool was probably 60 degrees so it wasn’t usable.

Most amazing KOA (City!!) we’ve stayed in

Wonderful place for kids & family. No cell or internet service.

Luckily the campground was sparsely populated when we arrived on Labor Day. I can see that if it were fully occupied people would be on top of each other. Because we didn't have neighbors we had a nice view of the hills. Bathrooms were far away and showers were mildewed. Coffee shop already closed for the season. Fried chicken at the fast food place on site was only passable. Good location.

Beautiful sites, extremely helpful and nice staff

WiFi and internet connectivity were sparse to say the least, back in spaces were a little tight to maneuver. Overall staff was knowledgeable and courteous, will be back again.

The “pull through” site where we stayed was not truly a pull through as there was a site directly behind it and with a 26’ trailer there was no possible way of pulling through. This was a back in site with an up charge. The pool was, honestly, filthy. The wasps were overwhelming, more than likely because the sanitation was lacking. Of the 6 years we have stayed here, this was the worst.

The sites were small

We loved the campground during our first visit 7 years ago. This time, our cabin was situated on a hill with a front porch view of the RV dumping station, which was literally right in our “front yard.” We had to climb down the hill to go to the bathroom, through the RV full hook up sites. The lack of bathroom near the pool and the number of small children swimming was also unsettling.

This was the noisiest, most invasive RV camping experience we've ever encountered. Space 187 should not be rented as it is next to constant noisy traffic. There was also a continuous stream of people walking through our site, particularly from the cabins. Palmer Gulch also has zero mobile service and the camp wifi wasn't working. We had a reservation for 3 nights, but departed after one night.

Amenities are old and run down, pool freezing, quiet hours not enforced. Sites too close together. Fire pits not cleaned between guests.

Holiday weekend so very busy and a little crowded for my liking. It was only the first weekend of September but wagon ride dinners had already ended. Other activities also ended for the "season". Did have a good choice of on-site food and a decently priced convenience store. The dog park and surrounding area was not kept cleaned the two days we were there. Would like to see a night lighted area.

We had a great time, kids and adults loved all the amenities that come with your campground! Mini golf definitely a hit! My only recommendation for improvement is level the actual camping sites, the ones down below the hill looked great, but the ones up the hill were really uneven ground.

We had the absolute best time tent camping at the KOA at Palmer Gulch! Hoping to make it a yearly trip.

I was pretty bummed out when I saw our tent site (608). We had a party of 7 and had been assured Thursday we would get a bigger site. The 2 sites flanking us with 2 people each we way bigger. 607 was kind enough to allow us to set up a tent on the back end of theirs since they had a camper van. I did request a move the next day and it was granted. The bathroom showers at the area are very dirty

My family and I enjoyed our stay very much. The only complaint I have is that quiet time was not enforced by anybody at the park. There were teenagers playing at the basketball courts until 11 p.m. and even midnight every single night that we stayed which was three nights. We were on site 90 and we could hear the kids yelling and screaming.

Awesome amenities and staff

My wife and I had a great time there. The location was great, the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the bathrooms and showers were spotless. Tons of great activities! We'd like the tap room to be open a bit later. After visiting Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore it's late and the tap room is already closing. It's nice to have a beer before turning in. It's the best KOA we've been to!

This park is a beautiful park. Lot’s to keep kids busy. We were up on the hill and it was so congested I wouldn’t want to stay up there again. Other than that we had a good time stay.

Compared to others, not impressed

Clean resort. Wi-Fi needs to be worked on. And should know there is no cell phone reception. Also, found out the hard way that hail storms happen there more often than thought. We found this out due to total losses on our RV and truck. Not resorts fault, but I wish we knew ahead of time that the storms happen there and be ready. We would have rethought the trip. Otherwise very good stay

Just wished phones would work better there

Second time for family vacation. LOVE this place. Has something for the entire family and the staff is exceptionl

Beautiful RV spots.. we rented UTVs and golf carts.. kids enjoyed their time.. staff was nice.. the only things I wasn’t happy about was that the “heated “ pool hadn’t been turned on all week since you were in the process of closing up for the season ( we stayed Sept 2-7th) and no one told us when we checked in that we should get horseback riding in since they were closing early .. kids we

The campground is wonderful with so many activities both scheduled and unscheduled to participate in and of course the backdrop of the hills make it a beautiful place to relax and get away. We've been here a couple of times before and love going back.

This campground is unbelievable, the entire placed was above any expectations. Staff were equally as great, would highly recommend staying here and for multiple days

This campground never disappoints. The sites are level and clean. I stayed during a very busy weekend. Service was as great. They were very accommodating to our specific disability needs.

The internet/cell phone access was limited which was frustrating for college students and business people. Wide range of activities for younger children. Large amount of bathroom facilities. Loved the rodeo.

I beautiful setting in the foothills near Mt. Rushmore. Great spots, easy check in, well maintained and many activities available. On site dining choices too.

It’s a nice enough place, just think they should boost their wifi and I’m confused why you have to pay $3 a day extra for a dog. We have our dog on a leash at all time and pick up after it, so I don’t understand the extra fee. Thank you

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, fun activities for kids and the whole family enjoyed the rodeo.

Our stay was disappointing. We booked a site based on your advertised Wi-Fi and Cable only to find LITTLE TO NO SUPPLY OF BOTH and absolutely no mention that there is no cell phone service. Upon arrival the site was dirty and cramped for the money you charge. The staff exceeds the posted speed limit and it's amazing that no one is run over. Definitely would not recommend.

We dry docked for the night since they are closed for the season. This KOA is very beautiful with deer coming right up to the front door.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nites, and it was Phenomenal. A beautiful Resort atmosphere and even though it was at the very end of the season, every one there was very helpful and especially Becky. She is so knowledgeable about the area. I worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and I would hire here in a heartbeat to work with. KOA is very fortunate to have employees of this caliber.

This KOA is in a perfect location and would love to stay here again. We rented a glammed cabin which is just a upgrade from their simple cabins but well worth it in my opinion. Your cabin already comes with bedding, a mini fridge, microwave, outdoor grill and table and chairs. You have a beautiful view of the woods and the campground itself has so many activities. You're right in the middle of the black forest, custer state park and Mt Rushmore. I will definitely be staying there again.
