New Orleans Kicks Off America's 250th with "Sail 250"

Sail 250 New Orleans — A Once-in-a-Generation Maritime Spectacle

Sail 250 New Orleans will transform the Mississippi River into one of the most breathtaking nautical celebrations in American history. From May 27–June 1, 2026, New Orleans becomes the first U.S. port city to launch this nationwide commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, welcoming an international fleet of tall ships, naval vessels, and maritime ambassadors from around the world.

A Global Fleet on the Mississippi

More than a dozen nations will be represented as majestic sailing ships and modern naval vessels line the riverfront from the Crescent City Connection Bridge to Poland Avenue Wharf. Visitors can expect an extraordinary mix of historic sail-training ships and gray-hulled Navy and Coast Guard vessels, including:

  • USCGC Eagle, America’s only active square-rigged training vessel

  • USS Kearsarge, USS Farragut, and USCGC Mohawk

  • International ships such as HMS Trent (UK), HNLMS Friesland (Netherlands), ARA Libertad (Argentina), ARC Gloria (Colombia), BAP Unión (Peru), Esmeralda (Chile), ROU Capitán Miranda (Uruguay), and HSwMS Gladan (Sweden)

Together, these vessels create a rare opportunity to explore maritime traditions spanning centuries and continents.
