Campground Reviews

Oct 07, 2019
Camp is in need of maintenance. Understand there has been an extreme amount of rain in the area, but the site we were assigned was mostly grasss/mud and in need of gravel. There were empty spots which were better, but since we were a 1 night stay, we got the bottom of the barrel. Mosquito controls would have helped everyone in the park, Made us look at KOA in a different light, they’re not equal

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

The area has had flooding since March which equals mosiquitos, our campground has not. We have received a extreme amount of rain in the last 30 days and the campground was wet.

We were in mud up to our butts

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Not an accurate description, lots of rain and flooding in the area.

Mud hole. Our site was a mess and the roads were worse. There were other sites drier than ours that we could have been assigned to (as there were many vacancies). Seems that the staff didn’t visibly check sites. The roads were in definite need of gravel. Once set up our tires were caked with about two inches of mud. I tried to rinse them off but was told “THAT IS NOT ALLOWED.” Just rude.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Everthing around us is flooded, how could you miss this, people are losing their homes and farms and you complain about muddy tires and not being able to add water to the park! You were washing your camper with soap, bucket and hose! We can't control the weather but do not can control washing campers onsite.

The campground was experiencing some flooding after days of rain. Not their fault, but lots of mud. They tried to put us in the driest spot available. They were very friendly folks.

Easy in/out of space on flat/level ground

Very nice campground and accommodations.

I usually give 10s and 5s. The young lady that checked us in was very nice. Lake is nice, space was ok. The only thing was they need more gravel on the roads, and fix the large mud holes. Mud when we stepped out our door, our floor was a muddy mess. We were in a tornado watch that night, they have no storm shelter in the campground.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Gravel is impossible to get due to flooding, we were never in a tornado watch. There are no campgrounds in the area with storm shelters, map shows evacuation plan, which is more than most offer.

We enjoyed our weekend stay. Very quiet campground with lovely lake.
Sep 23, 2019
Just a one nighter but friendly and nice grounds
Sep 23, 2019
We were there only for one night but we got a sense of the place. They were having a chili bake-off the night we were there. Beautiful lake; easy to find and navigate to with a large rig. Had all the amenities we needed. Quiet and peaceful.

One night stay on our way to Clarinda, Iowa. Park is satisfactory, not up to our maintenance standards. Would not book a lengthy stay.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

12 inches of rain in a week and a half, not sure what your maintenance standards are but we have many repeat long term happy campers.

Beautiful, clean very enjoyable.

This is a nice campground and the people were very friendly. The area next to the lake is about 8 feet above the water with a very steep bank making it almost impossible to fish from the shore if that is what you wanted to do. The pads where you park your campers are in need of leveling. The fire pit in our camping area was in a hole which is alright but after a rain you can't build a fire.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Wow not sure where you stayed for this review but it wasn't with us!

Thank you to Angela for checking the road conditions and calling to let us know what she found out! Very quiet campground.
Sep 16, 2019
Nice as always. Rained before we got there and once after. Kinda muddy. Not the owners fault. Nice people there. Will return.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

8 inches of rain will do that, thanks for understanding. Ask to be move while onsite if your site is an issue rather than complaining in a review.

I liked the large mature trees and shade provided. Unfortunately we got in on a thunderstorm with lots of rain and some hail. Hooked up when the rain stopped and it was quite muddy. We also had to compensate for a not so level pad. An average stay, hence the 3 rating. I like a bit more luxury. Thicker gravel on roads could help is be cleaner. Thanks for the stay anyway.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

With all the flooding in the area all season including 8 inches of rain when you stayed, gravel is impossible to get, we can't control the weather. People around here lost everything and are still fighting floods. Asked to be moved if you don't like your site instead of complaining in a review. If you like luxury perhaps camping isn't the best choice.
Sep 14, 2019
Very clean and nice people
Sep 13, 2019
Had water around entire site. Made hooking up and unhooking very messy.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

After inches of rain there was water, but that was to be expected we can't control the weather and with all the flooding we are unable to get rock. Next time asked to be moved rather than complaining in a review after the fact, we may have had a better site.

We arrived at 1 pm and the office was closed. Park would be great for a small rig but at 43 feet plus tow was hard to maneuver tight curves and not all sites were numbered so hard on our own to locate our site.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We are on our fall hours and REOPEN at 3pm, check in is 3pm. We have rigs longer than 43 foot towing without any problems. You are given a site map through night reservation to use, all sites are clearly numbered. You came in the exit and were asked if you needed assistance getting to site and said no and went driving in wrong direction and through other sites to get to yours, follow the map!

We stayed there over Labor day weekend. Had a spot right by lake. Very nice. Thought the store and office closed too early at 8pm. All KOA's we have stayed at they were open til 10. Didn't understand the no rug policy as the spot we we're in was all dirt so no grass would of been killed. Year round residents were loud and having a good time at night, which was fun to watch and listen to.
Sep 04, 2019
We stayed one night. Koa is clean and convenient to highway
Sep 04, 2019
Tailgater parties into the night, had to plunge the toilet after use (so did others), neighbor's fire pit within 6 feet of my tow vehicle with flames within 4 feet (YIKES!), campers yelling at me for "going too fast" in campground when only proceeding at 5 MPH (this campground has had postings similar to this - long term entitled camper), and overflowing dumpsters midway through a holiday weekend.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for your stay, unfortunately when you choose to bring up issues you had in a review rather than while staying with us there is nothing we can do. As far as the garbage if you can find someone to work on holidays and pick up the garbage let us know, unfortunately we have had no luck. Dumpsters are emptied before holiday weekend and throughout the week.

Nice park with long sites but the WiFi was terrible.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for your stay, it is explained at check-in the wifi is for checking emails only.

Need a better WiFi

Great Family friendly stay. Everything was clean and nice. The people were very friendly and the camp layout was spacious and very clean. Thanks for agreat weekend.
Sep 02, 2019
Quiet campground. Huge shade trees. Sites are larger than average for a KOA. Country atmosphere. Very clean bathrooms/shower. Rates are great.

One of the nicest campgrounds we’ve stayed at. Beautiful, quiet and large sites. Easy to get to. Staff was very friendly and helpful. A great stay. Will definitely stay there again in the future. Thanks

I had a reservation and am a KOA member but was given a campsite next to the propane house and the trash dumpster when the campground was only half full. Thought that would be the last site to rent.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thanks for your stay but you were not next to the trash dumpster, not even close! We do not have any sites located next to the trash dumpster. If you didn't like your site, you could have asked to be moved. KOA is not a membership campground, we sell discount cards to receive $ off your stays, you have a discount card for KOA.

My most favorite Rv park ever. The hosts, Angela and Kelly are down to earth and a great resource. Thanks to y’all including Deana

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you Mario, can't wait to see you again! Safe travels!

The location was perfect on the lake and remote enough to be relaxing but close to conveniences of town stores gas etc. Thr staff was amazing friendly, helpful and the grounds were well kept. a there were a few potholes on the entrance but almost to be expected in this area during this time of year due to weather.
Aug 29, 2019
Clean, pretty Campground with nice owners.
Aug 28, 2019
Onowa/Blue Lake is nice and quiet with a wonderful view of Blue Lake. The large trees makes lots of shade for those hot sunny days. If like to visit again and get one of the electric/water sites that overlooks the lake. It is truly a breathtaking site.
Aug 27, 2019
Extremely nice people. Wasn't there long enough or had great weather to take advantage of the Lake.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Not sure why you gave a negative review???

Beautiful, shaded area with a lake and fishing. Warm, friendly staff. Nice showers. Would happily return.
Aug 25, 2019
Awesome staff. Nice grounds and immaculate restrooms. Forget exit 120 use 112. Easy drive. Thanks
Aug 24, 2019
Staff helpful as usual. Enjoyed the pool. We have stayed several times and have been pleased each time.
Aug 24, 2019
Beautiful views, we will be back for sure, my only issue was making a wrong turn and getting stuck in the loop with the dead end.
Aug 24, 2019
I was there for an overnight stay; when leaving I needed propane but had apparently hit the time of year when school started again and they had no one to help me out. A tad inconvenient, but not sure a stay during school season will be as easy.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Sorry for the inconvenience, you didn't act all that bother by not being able to fill the propane, you said you had plenty. We could have filled your propane at check in just not at check out. Not sure what school season has to do with occupying a campsite or why a stay would be not easy during school season. Happy Camping!

Lovely KOA and nice owners.

We were just in and out, but we liked the location and the setting of the sites.

My husband and I stayed here for the first time in July 2021. We have been back multiple times since! I was worried after reading some reviews as people were complaining about strict rules. We didn't find it strict at all. Everyone we dealt with went out of their way to be helpful. I tend to ask a lot of questions but never once was I shut down or felt like I was a bother. The lake is beautiful and reminds us of much longer trips we used to take to Minnesota. Campground very well cared for, cleanest restrooms we have ever seen/used at a KOA. The pool was kept perfectly clean and was so enjoyable. The RV spaces are very well spaced out, beautiful shade trees for my hubby who can't do the sun! Both sets of my kids and grandkids came out and had the best time! New dog park for my furkids and wonderful new playground for kids. This was an amazing place, and we hope to be going here for years. Thank you.

Typically, we don't stay in KOAs: we camp in the back of our pickup, with two mattresses in the bed and we don't need hookups or electricity. But since Lewis and Clark State Park campground on the other side of the lake books up very early for the summer season, we ended up reserving a tent site at this KOA. Our stay was pleasant enough. The site was right on the lake, with other simple campers (a family in a tent trailer) right next to us. No problems with rowdy behavior or noise. Restroom facilities (toilets, sinks, showers) were clean and well maintained. There were lots of huge RVs in the other parts of the campground, crammed in very close together. We were glad to have reserved a tent site.
