Tent Reviews

The distance from the KOA to Ouray was great, given that Ouray was pretty crowded this time of year. The campground itself was crowded, but clean. The restrooms were well-maintained, and the text message service was a nice touch. It would be nice to be able to select which campsite you reserve, we would have liked to have been on the perimeter.

Our problem was with the camp bathroom/showers. Although the bathrooms next to the office were pristine, the ones in the campground were almost unusable. I know a lot of people are slobs, but a lot of us are not. Trash was overflowing onto floor, tp/towels empty, sinks and showers dirty. If you have a lot of people using them, clean more often. I saw a bunch of yellow shirts just standing around.

We had a tent site. No shade, but an ez up solved that problem. Clean bathrooms, trash pickup, ice and firewood delivery made it a great stay. Friendly and helpful staff. Convenient 5 minute drive to the town of Ouray. Jeep rental was a nice bonus- everything you need for a trip to the San Juan mountains!

I've stayed here several times. This time, the tent site #88 was not good. Right next to the county road, traffic noise, red ant beds on the site. I thought I was getting a nice site on the hill near trees but I ended up with a small pad next to cabins and RVs. I was super disappointed, other times I've been very happy. I've stayed here 3 or 4 times during each summer and liked it before.

Loved the restaurant. Too many flies.

4th time there. wished the sites had not been so cramped together. campers crossing thru my site. stayed 9 nights in tent. needed daily rain to keep road dust down. restroom was cleaned in the middle of the night. upgrades make it pretty swanky. with so many Texans, should seriously consider having picante sauce available. Kevin and Christine were great. helped with cell dropped in puddle.

Very disappointed!! Too many sites crammed into every little place. Our tent site (88) was terrible!! All Dirt and lot of road noise, next tent parking was only a few steps from out tents, main campground road was dusty and other tent side were bad too. Had good bathroom and employees were nice and helpful - KOA puts small tent sites through out when should have a “tent area” since you

I know there are big changes still to be made. Showers at the tent sites were COLD mostly, very hard to catch a hot one down there. Having someone living in our site 47D was extremely annoying and they really should be moved. That site was chosen by me specifically 1 yr ago for the trees and the size of the site. I could not use my hammocks or tent hammock. Staff is great, all very friendly.

Stay was great, service was great, just wish there were more showers and bathrooms near the back campsites.

We were on a Jeep trip with family and they made it where we could all camp together. It’s a great place to stay with great people who will do their best to make sure your stay is great

We want to thank the whole staff at KOA. Friendly service, felt like family. Helpful staff. The Mountain Top restaurant team did an excellent job of providing a positive atmosphere, even though they were short staffed. I would stay again and very relaxing.

My stay went fine. While my campsite for a tent wasn't the best it was totally my issue for not reserving sooner. The 1-12 campsite are extremely close to one another and the dust from the road is horrible. I would never select one of these.

After eating and breathing dirt for 2 nights, finally got to move away from entrance. Love the location but they do little to control speed with speed bumps

The tent sites should not be at the entrance of the park. We had a very small site next to another small site with multiple tents pitched… needless to say we could hear our neighbors all thru the night and every vehicle that went in/out shined their lights into the tent. Not much sleep at all. Love Ouray, but the KOA accommodations left a little to be desired.

Too crowded. Cold showers. Nasty restrooms. Great location. Courteous staff.
Aug 07, 2021
Need more bathroom/shower facilities and they need to be cleaned several times a day, especiallythe floors.. Tent site not level, half grass and half dirt. At the price it should be clean pea gravel pad. Staff was super nice and attentive.

Too congested. Not enough bathhouses. Horses need to be located off premises so campers don't have to put up with flies and horse manure.

I'm accustomed to more rural camping and this was a bit disappointing as it's a very civilized camping experience. Very few tent sites (lots of generator noise) and our site was right next to a field of horses-- fun, but smelly. Way overpriced at $60 for a VERY basic tent site, but it was the only camping we could reserve ahead of time in the busy town of Ouray. Staff was friendly.

I love the Ouray KOA. I've stayed there before. About my only gripe is that the horses generate a lot of flies. I was in 52C, very close to the horses, and the flies were pretty bad. Other than that, I absolutely recommend the Ouray KOA. ..a very well operated facility..

Muddy and restrooms/ showers only cleaned once daily for a crowded campground.
Aug 02, 2021
Everything was amazing. My only complaint would be the tree and fence arrangement in spot 50A. I watched 2 separate people hit that fence trying to navigate through there.

Good: proximity to Our and very courteous staff. Bad: the picnic table in our site #42 was unstable and in poor condition.

Staff is very friendly. Bathrooms could use improvement. Had ants at my tent site. But over all it was fine.

The tent sites were stacked on top of each other, hard to have any sense of privacy. Discourages revisiting campground. My neighbors vehicle pointed his headlights toward my tent entrance and was roughly 12 ft away, turned headlights on in middle of the night. Maybe other camper courtesy could be emphasized. Bought a “grass pad” site and was placed on a dirt pad. Staff was helpful and responsi

The staff was great! But, the camp sites were some of the smallest I have seen, providing little to no privacy. I could have just camped in a parking lot for the same experience. Also, the WiFi didn’t work. I was relying on this for my job, therefore I had to drive into town to work.

Check in was easy. I had a problem with my tent site, biting ants, and they were able to move me to a different site. The bathrooms were pretty clean although the shower floor area was less than clean. Overall a very good stay.

Staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. Facilities were clean, campground very pleasant.

Friendly staff, well provisioned store, laundry room a huge plus, bathroom was clean.

Great location, clean and super friendly people.

Unable to stay, the campsite was horrible. It was a square dirt patch in a row of dirt patch sites with no trees or shade of any kind. With common mornings in the 90s and big rains in the afternoons kids wouldn't be able to be at the site and no cooking dinner outside. The biting flies were swarming and terrible. The 'pool' was a backyard hot tub and the playground hadn't been set up yet.

We enjoyed our 3 night/4 day stay at the Ouray KOA. The tent site- 44- was away from the busy areas, was spacious, and had trees for some shade. The bathrooms and showers were busy but the longest we waited was about 10 minutes for showers. Only issue was barking dogs in a neighbors RV- it would be great if they would address that with people who leave dogs barking all day.

We had a wonderful time! The campground is great with lots of trees and the staff was very friendly and helpful

Stayed three days 1 Camping. Camp sites are very packed and had ant piles around the tress. 2. Cabin. Nice clean 3. Upgrade cabin... Tonight! Great place Local is beautiful But in my opinion to asked together

Location is great for the area, tent row is neighbor on neighbor. You can request a particular site for $20 one time fee. To me that says you know the tent area is bad. If you like a coffee shop, resturant your in luck, charming shops. I prefer a little more privacy when tenting. Not right on the road.

We have been coming to the Ouray KOA for for 20 years. We really enjoy this KOA because the camp sites are not crammed together like some other commercial sites including KOAs. Lately new camp sites are being designed and crammed tightly in areas. Some have been placed in the once grassy field. Improvements to the office is OK but priority should be given to more showers and restrooms. Long lines!

wonderful stay

Super busy time of year, everyone working there was excellent in every way. You need to install a playground, there's not enough for kids to do which is not the norm for a KOA. For immaculate overall great place.

We stayed at 46A. After setup, I mentioned to someone working the desk that it smelled like dog crap, because I saw a lot of people leading their dogs to poop in the “playground” area but not utilizing the dog poop bags and trash can. However, I came to understand that the odor was due to the sewer clean-out located at 46A that was absolutely horrible to smell each time someone flushed upstr

Beautiful location! Well run and maintained campground!

Our stay was very unpleasant. If you are tent camping don’t even bother! It was overpriced and the campsite if that’s what you want to call it was so small you could reach your arm out and touch the other tents & campers. We stayed one night paid for two “no refund” is what the girl at the desk told me. Didn’t care it was that bad. I would call the owners of this KOA very greedy people.

Best KOA we’ve ever stayed at.

We had a great experience at the Ouray KOA. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend it to any campers.

Appears you are trying to pack as many into that campground as possible. Probably will not return. Used to stay here in years past with previous owners and was a pleasant place to visit.

First, I googled campgrounds and saw this one said free breakfast (which is not true), The tent sites are very small, crowded, littered, no space or privacy, the audacity to charge $50 AND you gotta be out by 11:00 AM! There's a lovely pile of trash debris in the corner of the lot and some overlord in a house up on the cliff looking down at you. Will never come back here. Friendly staff, though.

I stayed here in 2012 on a trip to the San Juans. Camp hosts were super friendly, and the showers were nice and clean. We did a tent spot and it was great.

We just needed to use facilities on the way through. The showers here are so clean, water is piping hot and pressure is great. One of the cleanest bathroom setups we have had in awhile. The camphost was so friendly. Don't forget to say hello to Hermes, the camp cat! Such a sweetie and might follow you into the bathroom to warm up on the off season. 😇
