Planning a weekend in Parry Sound? With Georgian Bay, local shops, trails, great food and plenty to explore, you can pack a lot into two days — without spending your whole trip in the car.
One of the best things about staying at Parry Sound KOA is having everything you need for a relaxing camping getaway right here, while still being close enough to head into town and explore.
If we were planning the perfect two-day Parry Sound getaway, here's how we'd do it.
Start your morning with a stop at Dent Bay Baking Company.
Grab a fresh coffee and a treat to take with you, then head out for a morning walk. There's something pretty special about starting your day surrounded by the trees and fresh northern air — especially when you've got something delicious from a local bakery in hand.
Once you've had your coffee, make your way to the entrance of the Rugged Trail.
This beautiful trail takes you through the rugged Canadian Shield landscape that makes the Parry Sound area so unique. It's a great way to experience the area's natural beauty before heading into town for the afternoon.
Take your time, enjoy the scenery and don't forget to bring your camera.
After working up an appetite, head into downtown Parry Sound and spend some time exploring Main Street.
Browse the local shops, pop into the boutiques and galleries, and make sure to visit Barely Used Books - one of the largest bookstore in Canada! You won't wanna miss it.
Part of what makes Parry Sound so enjoyable to explore is the number of independent businesses you'll find downtown. Give yourself some time to wander — you never know what you'll find.
When you're ready for a break, head over to Trestle Brewing Company and settle onto the patio with a drink.
It's a great place to slow down, enjoy the atmosphere and take in the surroundings after a morning of exploring.
And don't rush off just yet.
From Trestle, take the walking path toward the Town Dock.
This is one of our favourite ways to experience downtown Parry Sound. Follow the waterfront, check out the boats in the harbour, take in the Georgian Bay views and wander through any shops you may have missed earlier.
By now, you'll probably be ready to head back to camp.
After a full day exploring, head back to your site and fire up the BBQ.
Make dinner at your own campsite, pour yourself a drink, and settle in for a cozy evening around the fire.
There's something about ending a day of exploring with a campfire that makes camping feel like camping.
No reservations. No rushing. No getting back in the car.
Just relax and enjoy the evening.
There's no need to rush out the door.
Start your second morning with a walk right here at Parry Sound KOA. Our property has trails to explore, giving you the chance to enjoy the woods and get some fresh air before heading into town.
Grab a coffee, take your time and enjoy a slower start to the day.
Once you're ready to head into town, make your way to the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts and Bobby Orr Hall of Fame.
Learn a little more about the community, explore the exhibits and discover the story of one of Canada's most legendary hockey players.
It's an easy stop to add to your day and a great way to experience a little of Parry Sound's history and culture.
After exploring the Stockey Centre, head over to Legend Spirits Company for lunch.
Grab a spot on the patio, enjoy something to eat and take in the beautiful surroundings.
It's the perfect place to recharge before your afternoon adventure.
Once you've finished lunch, make your way to Tower Hill.
Climb the observation tower and take in the panoramic views over Parry Sound and Georgian Bay.
After spending the weekend exploring the trails, waterfront and downtown, it's a pretty spectacular way to see just how beautiful the area really is.
Before heading back to the campground, make a stop at Orr's Fine Meats, our local butcher shop that has some of the most impeccable selections you can find. We particularly favour their sausages!
Then it's back to the KOA.
Fire up the BBQ, enjoy dinner at your site and make the most of your last evening around the campfire.
After two days of exploring, you'll have seen a little bit of everything that makes Parry Sound special — the trails, the waterfront, the local businesses, the food, the history and the natural beauty.
And the best part?
You never had to go far from your home base.
A Parry Sound getaway is about more than just having somewhere to sleep at night.
When you stay at Parry Sound KOA, you're close enough to enjoy everything Parry Sound has to offer while still having a peaceful place to come back to at the end of the day.
Spend your mornings on the trails, your afternoons exploring town and your evenings around the campfire.
