Hike the blufftop trails and visit overlooks above the Mississippi River Valley. The park is a natural outing from the campground; check current park access and trail conditions before heading out.
Explore Great River Bluffs State Park, Sugar Loaf, Garvin Heights, and other area trails for more bluff-country views beyond the campground.
Bald eagles nest and fish along the Mississippi near Winona all year. During camping season, look for them along the river and the bluffs. The Lock and Dam 7 observation deck near Dresbach and the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge are good places to start, and the National Eagle Center in Wabasha has resident eagles and live programs.
Ride about 15 miles of trails at Bluffside Park on the bluffs above Lake Winona, about 15 minutes from the campground. Start at Holzinger Lodge for the Oberton Family Bike Park and the downhill flow trails, or ride the Chickadee Circuit on top of the bluff. Trails close when wet, so check TrailBot before you go.
Ride the paved loop of about five miles around Lake Winona, or take your bike to the Great River State Trail across the river in Wisconsin. Paddlers can rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboard at Lake Lodge in season, or explore the Aghaming Water Trail in the river backwaters.
Fish from shore at Levee Park or launch to the main channel and backwaters. A Minnesota or Wisconsin license covers the Mississippi boundary waters between the railroad tracks; check each state's border-water rules. Boat trailer parking is available at the campground; ask the office first.
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
