Jo Parent is, quite frankly, the face and heart of our campground. We are incredibly grateful to have her leading our KOA—and to have her in our lives.
Jo grew up in Canada, spending her childhood summers boating, fishing, and picking wild blueberries—igniting a lifelong passion for the great outdoors. Nearly 30 years ago, she relocated to Texas to marry her husband, Dale, who now serves as the other half of our fantastic management team.
Jo and Dale began their "work-camping" chapter over a decade ago at the Yellowstone KOA, followed by stints at the San Antonio and Burkburnett KOAs. After taking a brief hiatus during the height of COVID-19, they joined our Alamosa team in 2021.
From day one, Jo went "all in." Thanks to her work ethic and natural leadership, she was quickly promoted from work-camper to Assistant Manager, and then to Operations Manager.
Over the past five years, Jo has spearheaded a myriad of improvements to elevate our guest experience. She completely reimagined our camp store, overhauled our food services, and introduced weekend activities for kids. With Jo at the helm, we operate with the premium energy of a KOA Holiday rather than a Journey. The proof is in the numbers, as our NPS score has now reached 90 and we received the 2024 IKON Award.
While Jo knows how to get the job done, she always prioritizes people. She greets every single guest with genuine warmth and a smile, noting that her favorite part of the job is making people feel truly welcome and helping them create lasting camping memories.
For our returning campers, Jo never forgets a name, instantly making them feel like family. She has a special bond with our youngest campers, too. The kids all know her as “Miss Jo,” and her shifts are regularly filled with sweet goodbye hugs when it’s time for families to check out.
Jo’s energy is completely infectious—and you would never guess that she lives with multiple sclerosis. Jo often says that the campground gives her the strength to stay ahead of her MS, making the tough days a little brighter.
Her personal journey, combined with her love for children, has made her an ardent supporter of the Care Camps Foundation (which funds medically supervised camps for kids with cancer). Thanks to Jo's drive, our KOA raised over $10,000 for Care Camps last year alone. A significant part of that success is our annual Chili Cook-Off, held the Saturday after Labor Day. Even at the end of a exhausting summer season, Jo rallies the team to find the energy to pull off this incredible fundraiser.
Planning a visit to Alamosa? We hope you’ll stay a few extra days and let Jo and our team take care of you!
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
