Located just 3 miles from Mitchell, South Dakota, Mitchell KOA is close to many of the area’s top attractions, including the World’s Only Corn Palace, Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village, Dakota Discovery Museum and Art Gallery, Lake Mitchell, Cabela’s, downtown Mitchell, local restaurants, and convenient shopping. Fans of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Little House on the Prairie can visit De Smet to explore the Ingalls Homestead, Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Homes, original school sites, and pioneer history attractions. Guests can also take an easy drive west on I-90 to the Chamberlain/Oacoma area for Missouri River views, the Dignity: of Earth & Sky statue, and the Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center.
The Corn Palace is located at 604 North Main Street in Mitchell, South Dakota. During the summer months the Corn Palace offers free guided tours led by friendly guides full of "a-maize-ing" facts, like how many nails and staples are used in the decoration process. The tour also features an outstanding video explaining the Corn Palace Story. After the tour you can view displays about the Corn Palace, how the murals are created, souvenirs and entertainment from the past, and how the corn is grown.

While visiting Mitchell, stop by the The Mitchell Indigenous Archaeological Site & Museum, also known as the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village. The Mitchell Site, a National Historic Landmark, has been at the forefront of Northern Plains archaeology for more than four decades and is the only active archaeological site open to the public in South Dakota. Located just 7 miles from the Mitchell KOA near Lake Mitchell.

The Dakota Discovery Museum and Art Gallery formally, The Friends of the Middle Border Museum exists to preserve and promote the heritage of the Native American and immigrant people of the Middle Border states, primarily for the the period 1600 - 1939, and interpret the museum's collection for the public through educational tours, permanent exhibitions, and special programming.

The City of Mitchell has great parks throughout the city and two nice facilities for exercise, fitness, swimming, and playing. The Recreation Center and Indoor Aquatic Center is located at 1300 N Main St in Mitchell and the Outdoor Aquatic Center is located at 1201 East Hanson Ave in Hitchcock Park.

The Mitchell store is easy to find just off I-90 at exit 332 (SD-37) or just 5 miles west of the Mitchell KOA via SD Hwy 38. Cabela's has a large parking lot and can easily accommodate your rig while you shop!
