Nature Happens: What to Expect at a Rural Campground

Nature Happens: What to Expect at a Rural Campground

If you’re planning a stay at the Port Lavaca KOA, you’re choosing wide open skies, waterfront views, fresh air, and a true connection to nature.

And with that comes something important to understand:

Nature happens.

Unlike hotels in urban environments, campgrounds exist within nature, not separate from it. That means during your stay, it’s completely normal to encounter insects and wildlife.

Bugs Are a Normal Part of Camping

At a rural campground, insects are part of the environment. You may see ants, beetles, mosquitoes, bees, or other small insects during your stay.

Even inside cabins, it’s possible for a bug to make its way indoors, especially with doors opening and closing.

This does not mean there is an infestation or cleanliness issue. It simply means you are staying in a natural outdoor setting.

Wildlife Is All Around Us

Our campground is home to a variety of wildlife. You may see deer, rabbits, raccoons, birds, possums, skunks, or other native animals.

Most stay in surrounding natural areas, but sightings can happen.

This is their home. We are the guests.

What We Do for Your Comfort

We take cleanliness and guest comfort seriously. Our team:

  • Cleans and sanitizes all cabins between every stay
  • Applies routine pest control treatments
  • Monitors for unusual or excessive pest activity
  • Takes action if something is beyond normal

What We Cannot Guarantee

Because of our rural location, we cannot guarantee:

  • A completely insect-free cabin
  • No wildlife sightings
  • A fully controlled indoor environment like a hotel

Even with regular treatments, nature is still present.

Please Do Not Feed Wildlife

Feeding animals can create bigger issues, including:

  • Animals returning frequently or staying near cabins
  • Increased insect activity, including fleas
  • Attraction of additional wildlife

For everyone’s safety, please do not feed wildlife.

Simple Tips for a Better Stay

  • Keep doors closed when not in use
  • Store food securely
  • Dispose of trash properly
  • Turn off unnecessary lights at night to reduce bugs

Understanding the Camping Experience

Camping is different from staying in a hotel and that’s part of what makes it special.

It’s about being outdoors, experiencing nature, and enjoying your surroundings.

Nature Policy Reminder

Because insects and wildlife are a natural part of the campground environment:

  • Occasional bugs or wildlife sightings are normal
  • Refunds are not issued for typical nature-related occurrences
  • If something seems excessive, please let our team know

Is a Campground Stay Right for You?

If you love the outdoors, you’ll feel right at home here.

If you prefer a completely controlled, indoor, bug-free environment, a hotel may be a better fit.

We Look Forward to Hosting You

At the Port Lavaca KOA, we invite you to experience nature the way it was meant to be enjoyed.
