Mad Creek Geological and Historical Hike

Two guides, one hike - once a month only!AGES 14+Yampatika will explore the glacial valley through the lens of Yampa Valley's exceptionally rich geologic past as the group hikes out to the historical sites.Along the way, Tread of Pioneers Museum staff will share Mad Creek road and area history. Midway through the hike museum staff will shed light on the iconic Mad Creek Barn and it's restoration while the group has a chance to eat and take in the incredible views! At our last stop, the group will head over the Mad Creek bridge to learn about the former Mad Creek Guest Ranch and pioneer families of the area.Thank you our partner Tread of Pioneers Museum! And although they can't make it this year, thank you Historic Routt County!Important details:


  • Meeting Time: 8:45 am (wrapping up by 1 pm)



  • What to wear: Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! You'll most likely want long pants/sleeves to protect yourself from the sun, dirt, and things that might make you itchy (mosquitos etc.). Avoid cotton when you're able and go with a synthetic material or wool.

  • Also remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes, good socks, a cool sun hat, and sunscreen!
  • What to bring in your day pack: 2 Water bottles (2 liters or more), snacks, lunch, extra layers (long sleeve shirt, fleece) and also bring your waterproof jacket!

Since 1927, the Fourth of July in Steamboat Springs has celebrated more than national pride – it's an annual opportunity for the Yampa Valley community to honor our Western heritage. Deep-rooted Independence Day traditions like the largest Pro Rodeo Series event of the summer and a hometown parade will be happening again in Steamboat Springs! We're excited to present this year's parade theme,  “A Salute to Dog Town USA”, which will include Grand Marshals Elaine Hicks, Executive Director at Routt County Humane Society, and Kathy Connell, President of Steamboat Digs Dogs. Review weekend events, transportation logistics, and how to participate below so you can be ready for this special celebration.Cowboys' Roundup Days Cowboys' Roundup Days is celebrating again in true western fashion! Fireworks and Preventing Wildfires Steamboat Springs will not offer a firework display as part of its Independence Day Celebration. Our community places a high value on wildfire prevention, and we thank visitors and residents in advance for not using fireworks in Steamboat Springs this Fourth of July.

Parade Registration Steamboat Springs community groups are strongly encouraged to join forces to create a float. Judging will occur in front of the judge's stage on the corner of 8th & Lincoln Ave. Performances will be judged on originality, creativity, and spirit.Pricing:Community Group & Non-Profit: $125

OktoberWest is more than a beer festival — it's Steamboat's favorite way to welcome fall in the Yampa Valley. Craft brews flow, crisp mountain air settles in for the season, and friends and families gather to celebrate with German flair. From the annual beef cook-off to lawn game competitions and a vendor market, there's something for everyone all weekend long. From 4–7 PM, explore downtown Steamboat's favorite bars and restaurants while sampling a variety of local beers.
